WORKING IN PAIRS

Page 3: Galvanic presentation

YOU WILL NEED:

• 1 galvanic machine + 2 x rollers + 1 x desincrustation electrode and a saturator

• 2 pieces of Gauze/ cotton wool /elastic bands to cover desincrustation electrode

• Assorted consumables e.g. Spatula’s, mask brush etc• Desincrustation & iontophoresis gel• Cleansers, toners, petroleum jelly, massage medium &

moisturisers• Mask/ No exfoliate

What Does Galvanic Do?

Page 5: Galvanic presentation

• There are different electrodes that are suited to both the body

and facial treatments

• The galvanic current is used in two ways on the face to improve cleanliness, tone, texture and condition of skin.

•The treatment requires a direct current applied via two electrodes, a cathode(-) the active electrode and an anode(+) the in active electrode.

•This treatment methods are known as desincrustation and iontophoresis.

DESINCRUSTATION TREATMENT

• Cleanse the skin thoroughly – twice is ideal to remove both make-up and perform a deep cleanse. Remove cleanser and blot, so the skin is clean and grease-free.

• Carry out thermal and sensitivity testing on the face.

• Test the machine on yourself and in front of the client – if required, test it on the client, too – so the client feels the sensation and is comfortable with it.

• Give the client the covered, neutral electrode (bar) to hold in a hand without jewellery on, and make sure the sponge glove is damp, but not wringing wet – some companies do not require the bar to be covered (always check).

• Decant desincrustation gel into a bowl, and apply to the face with either massage movements or a mask brush.

• Make contact with the sponge electrode on the skin, and turn up the current gradually, until the client feels a tingling sensation;

• turn down the intensity slightly and introduce the other electrode to the face.

• Use slow, even, circular movements all over the face, but do not allow the electrode to come into contact with one another.

• Work all over the face and neck area – approximately 5–7 minutes depending upon skin type and reaction, etc.

• When electrode use is completed, remove one electrode; keep the one in contact with the skin moving and turn current down and then off. Remove other electrode. Reverse polarity

• Turn off the current, remove the electrode and thoroughly remove all the product with damp sponges.

• Comedone extraction with sterile probe or covered fingers can now be completed.

CHEMICAL EFFECTS CREATED AT THE POLES

Effects of the anode (positive pole)•Acid reaction•Vaso-constrictive, decreases blood supply which reduces redness of the skin•Astringent effect -pores tighten•Soothing effect on nerve endings•Firms tissues

Effects of the cathode (negative pole)•Alkaline reaction•Vaso-dilative, increases blood supply which increases the redness of the skin•Pores relax•Stimulating effect on nerve endings•Softens tissues
