Introduction

• Takayasu arteritis (TA) is inflammatory large-vessel vasculitis

• Immunopathogenesis of TA is not clear – T cell mediated (Th1 & Th17)

Endogenous TLR4 ligands: S100 Calcium Binding Protein A8  (S100A8), S100A9, S100A12, high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB-1), fibronectin-1 (FN-1), heat shock protein -70 & tenascin-C

diagnosed according to ACR 1990 criteria
