Terracotta items for sale / Export from India

Terracotta is the term normally used for sculpture made in earthenware, and also for various

utilitarian uses including vessels (notably flower pots, cooking vessels, ornaments, sculptures etc),

water and waste water pipes, bricks.

In archaeology and art history, "terracotta" is often used to describe objects such as figurines not

made on a potter's wheel. Vessels and other objects that are or might be made on a wheel from the

same material are called earthenware pottery; the choice of term depends on the type of object

rather than the material or firing technique.[6] Unglazed pieces, and those made for building

construction and industry, are also more likely to be referred to as terracotta, whereas tableware and

other vessels are called earthenware (though sometimes terracotta if unglazed), or by a more

precise term such as faience.

Why terracotta?

Besides bare flame, and perhaps stone, earthenware is mankind's earliest cooking material, and still

one of the healthiest. Cultures around the world have used earthenware (also known as clay) as

their primary cooking material for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks used to store water, wine

and olive oil in egg shaped earthen amphorae. They realized that not only was the clay a healthy

material that would allow the liquid within to breathe, but also that the egg shape is the only shape

which allows for continual circulation, keeping the liquid healthful and alive.

In the 1950s Rudolf Hauschka conducted tests to determine the effects of different container

materials on the life-giving efficacy of water. After heating the water in the various vessels, he let it

cool and used it as a growth medium for wheat plants, observing the contribution to growth. He

determined, from least effective to most effective, aluminum, iron, tin, copper, glass, enamel,

porcelain, earthenware and gold. The water heated in the gold pot contributed the most to the

growth of the plant. Gold pots not being a plentiful resource, we prefer the use of earthenware for

most cooking purposes. As an added benefit, earthenware is the only material we have found to

improve the flavor of anything cooked therein.

These Terracotta items helps us to save our earth and these materials are reusable and protects our

environment.

How it’s made :

Please note that our real terracotta pots are fired at a temperature of 1200 degrees Centigrade for a

period of 2-3 days (depending on pot type). This results in the removal of most of any trapped

moisture from the clay material of the pots. With minimal moisture left within the clay pot structure,

there is very little chance of ice being formed in any meaningful way that would damage the integrity

of the pots.

Careful preparation of the clay, combined with complete hand-working during the pot manufacture,

prevents the formation of air voids in the finished pot. Once formed on the turntable, by our

craftsmen, the Pottery benefits from a favorable drying climate for the newly formed pots.

For Kitchen and drinking water Utensils food grade clays are used with care.
