There has been a tremendous surge in stem cell

research over the past decade resulting in many

new findings in the aspects of stem cell biology

and also the various applications. Although the

area of stem cell is still relatively new in Malaysia,

there is already a good number of local

researchers involved. There is also a growing

number of companies dealing with stem cell

banking as well as therapies. The regulatory pro-

cesses are coordinated through the various ethic

committees and the Ministry of Health plays a

lead role in terms of regulating both research

and therapies.

The decision to hold the first stem cell congress

in Malaysia is timely. This will be an opportunity

for the local scientists and researchers to refresh

and consolidate their knowledge in this exciting

area as well as interacting with the impressive

array of speakers whom we have invited.

The organizing committee would like to invite

you to participate this congress. We hope to see

you in Kuala Lumpur.
