The Suprasegmentals are features

superimposed on the syllables.

These include variations in stress and pitch.

VARIATIONS IN STRESS

Variations in stress are used

an English to distinguish between a noun to a verb.

Examples:

This is my father. Highest pitch occurs on the first

syllable.Is this your father?

The last syllable is on a high pitch.

Pitch changes can occur independently

of a stress changes…

VARIATIONS IN PITCH

The pitch pattern in a sentence is known as the

intonation.

Examples:
