I’ve recently been looking at Thera-Bands as a way to increase options for six pack training. Thera-Band is the brand name of those flexible rubber band-like tubes that some people are using for six pack training.

Thera-band was originally used in Physical Therapy as an aid in rehab for people recovering from injury, stroke, or for those folks in wheelchairs. Over the years, they have been adapted for gym use and are great for six pack training.

In many ways, Thera-Bands are better than free weights, especially if you are exercising at home. For six pack training, they can’t be beat.

As equipment, they don’t require much space and are completely portable. They are versatile for many types of six pack training exercises-pretty much any exercise can be adapted to use Thera-band.

There are several different types of Thera-Bands that can be used for six pack training. The easiest and least expensive option is plain Thera-Band. It is a ribbon-like material of about 3” wide that comes in 100’ lengths. It can be cut to size for use with both leg and arm exercises as well as for six pack training. It can be easily looped and knotted for a variety of exercises.

The other most common type of Thera-Band comes in tube form. Most people have seen these, with handles attached to each end at the gym.

The tube form comes in a roll about 5′ long, without handles. You can buy the handles separately if you wish, but it’s just as easy to use without handles for six pack training.

Since this flexible banding or tubing was developed for use in rehab, it can be used by anyone, of any age or physical condition, looking to do some strength training or six pack training.

The bands come in five different resistance levels. Generally speaking, the yellow colored Thera-band is the lightest resistance; then is red, green, blue and black.

The black is the heaviest resistance and is best for those of us who have been doing extensive six pack abs training for awhile.

There are many good ways to use Thera-Band in six pack training and we will be exploring those exercises in further posts, but if you want to get started now, here are a couple moves to get you started. Remember to check with your healthcare practionerabout any six pack training limits you may have.

Six Pack Abs Training Thera-Band Reverse Abdominal Crunch

Lay on your back in crunch position with a piece of Thera-band looped once around your knees, the ends held in your hands.

For this six pack training exercise your hands will be kept at your sides on the ground holding the ends of the resistance band. Tighten your abs and lift your knees up, doing a reverse crunch move. For six pack training, do 2 sets of 25.

Six Pack Training Thera-band Abdominal Crunch

Tie the ends of the resistance band to a couch leg or other non-moveable object. Get in crunch position with your arms straight over your head, holding the resistance band.

Keeping your arms straight, slowly crunch up, hold for a couple seconds, and then slowly return to start. For six pack training, do 2 sets of 25.

Six Pack Training Seated Crunches

This exercise is for those folks who due to mobility or balance issues cannot lie on the floor for six pack training. Loop the middle of the band around the back of the chair and around yourself holding it against your chest with your hands.

With your feet firmly planted on the floor, tighten your abs and crunch forward slowly and hold for a few seconds. Slowly lean back remembering to keep your abs engaged the entire time. For six pack abs training, work up to doing 25.
