Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy

¤  SBRT is a specialized form of radiation therapy administered in no more than five treatments by an advanced radiosurgery system. During treatment, high doses of radiation are delivered to tumors with pinpoint precision. A typical treatment session takes about 15 minutes and does not require surgery or sedation. Due to the extreme accuracy of radiation delivery, side effects, if any, are usually minor and temporary.

Proton Therapy

¤  Proton therapy is a type of particle therapy in which high-energy proton beams are delivered to tumors by a cyclotron. With proton therapy, doctors determine the precise point in a patient’s body where the proton releases the majority of its energy, maximizing exposure to cancer cells while minimizing exposure to normal tissue. Proton therapy is usually delivered in 20-35 treatments with typical outpatient sessions lasting less than five minutes. Side effects, such as fatigue, are usually minor and temporary.

Our Center

¤  Opened in 2008 through a partnership with Palomar Health, San Diego Radiosurgery specializes in stereotactic radiosurgery using Novalis Tx® technology. Our center was one of the first in the country to treat a patient using the Novalis Tx radiosurgery platform with ExacTrac® adaptive gating. This technology enables doctors to adjust the size and shape of radiation beams, compensating for patient movement and minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissue. San Diego Radiosurgery has extensive experience treating lung cancer patients, which represent the majority of our cases.
