What Is Hemoglobin?
•Hemoglobin Is the oxygen carrying pigment of red blood cells that gives them their red color, it also serves to
take oxygen to the tissues.
How hemoglobin is important?
• Hemoglobin is important because it transfers or helps the red blood cells move around the body.
• This is needed in the human body for the blood to go everywhere.
• The red blood cells go to the tissues also.
Hemoglobin chemical bonding?
• Yes, it binds with the oxygen. And turns into a totally different thing. So that would be considered chemical bonding.
How hemoglobin helps?
• Hemoglobin Helps spread oxygen all over your body.
• There can be too much hemoglobin in your body.
• Also can be too little.
Blood Doping
• Blood doping is an ejection of EPO which causes the body to make cells.
• Creates more oxygen cells to carry throughout body.
Autologous
• is when athlete's own red blood cells are produced well in advance of competition and then re-introduced before a critical event.
• For some time after the harvesting the athlete may be anemic.
Homologous
• Red blood cells also known as RBCs from a compatible donor are made, concentrated and then inserted into the athlete’s circulation according to endurance competitions.
EPO
• EPO- is a hormone produced by kidneys that regulates the number and volume of red blood cells.
WHY?
• Why is it used for medical reasons? When there is not enough red blood cells to get oxygen to the rest of the body.
• Why is it used in sports? For better endurance, especially for cycling. Gets oxygen to spread across body.
