This award-winning design combines high performanceand excellent acoustic sensitivity with the portableconvenience of a single-sided stethoscope. Thepatented tunable diaphragm conveniently alternatesbetween low and high frequency sounds without theneed to turn over the chestpiece.

Other features include a patient-friendly nonchill rimand diaphragm, excellent acoustic seal and comfortablefit with patented 3M™ Littmann® Snap Tight soft-sealing eartips, and a comfortably angled, anatomicallycorrect headset. The high performance, single-lumentubing is available in a range of attractive colors to meetindividual preferences.

Instructions for Use

Changing Frequencies Using the Tunable DiaphragmYour Littmann Master Classic II Stethoscope isequipped with a patented tunable diaphragm thatenables you to listen to both low and high frequencysounds without turning over the chestpiece.

Low frequencies: To listento low frequency sounds(traditional bell mode) usevery light skin contact.

High frequencies: To listento higher frequency sounds (traditionaldiaphragm mode), pressfirmly on the chestpiece.

To listen to low and high frequency sounds withoutremoving and repositioning the chestpiece simplyalternate between light and firm pressure on thechestpiece.

Headset Adjustment

Your new Littmann stethoscopeis designed to provide acomfortable, acoustically sealedear fit. Notice that the eartubesare set to accommodate thetypical anatomy of the ear canal.The eartips should point in aforward direction as you insertthem into your ear canals.

To reduce spring tension inthe headset, hold each eartubeat the bend near the eartip andgradually pull apart until fullyextended.

To increase spring tension,grasp the headset with onehand where the eartubes enterthe tubing and squeeze untilthe tubing on one eartubetouches the other. Repeat asnecessary.

For maximum acousticperformance, comfortablepatented 3M™ Littmann®Soft-sealing Eartips areprovided with yourstethoscope. This stethoscopeutilizes a unique design forattaching the eartip to the

eartube. The eartips are pushed on to the end of theeartube and snapped firmly into place. To remove, pullfirmly on the eartip.

Removing the Diaphragm and Cleaning the Chestpiece

With the diaphragm side up,grasp the rim with thethumbs and index fingers ofboth hands and roll the rimoff the edge of thechestpiece. Remove thediaphragm from the rim and

clean the parts in soapy water or wipe with alcohol.Chestpiece surfaces can be wiped with alcohol or soapy

water. Dry all parts and surfaces thoroughly beforereassembly.

Assembly and Replacement of the Tunable Diaphragm

Using your fingertip, apply asmall amount of talcum powderto the inside surface of theflexible edge of the diaphragm.This will facilitate assemblyand maintain smooth and quietlow/high frequency alternation.Snap the diaphragm with yourfingers to remove excess talc.

Insert the flexible edge of thediaphragm into the groove ofthe rim. This is bestaccomplished by starting withthe rim positioned above thelegible side of the diaphragm.

Visually examine the ring toensure that the flexible edge issmoothly engaged inside therim. If necessary, flex theassembly by pinching the outerrim edge between the thumband fingers. Repeat this flexingprocedure after rotating theassembly one quarter.

To attach the rim/diaphragmassembly to the chestpiece,engage the groove of the rim(with the diaphragm attached)around the chestpiece at onepoint and hold it in place withyour thumbs.

Slowly roll the rim around andover the chestpiece edge usingboth thumbs, moving inopposite directions around thechestpiece.

Visually inspect the edgewhere the diaphragm engagesthe rim for uniformcontainment. Minoradjustments may be made byslightly pulling and rolling therim away from the diaphragm,

allowing the diaphragm to slip into position.

General Use and Maintenance

• Avoid extreme heat, cold, solvents, and oils.

• The entire stethoscope can be wiped clean withalcohol or soapy water.

• Eartips can be removed from the eartubes forthorough cleaning.

NOTE: Do not immerse your stethoscope in any liquidor subject it to steam sterilization. If disinfection isrequired, the stethoscope may be wiped with a 70%isopropyl alcohol solution.

Your Littmann stethoscope comes with the finest serviceand warranty policy in the industry. The LittmannMaster Classic II Stethoscope is warranted against anydefects in material and workmanship for a period of three(3) years. If a material or manufacturing defect isdiscovered during the warranty period, repairs will bemade without charge upon the return of the instrument to3M, except in cases of obvious abuse or accidentaldamage.
