About Transplant

A marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant is often the best or only hope of a cure for many patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases.

2

Page 3: NMDP and Be the Match Registry Overview

70% of all patients who need a transplant do not have a matching donor in their family. They turn to the NMDP’s Be The Match Registry® to find an unrelated donor.

Meeting Need of Minority Patients

• 44% of CBUs on the registry are from a minority donor (compared to 27% of adult donors)

• Over last 5-6 years cord blood has been product source for ~20% of all transplants • In 2012 thirty-nine percent of minority patients who received a transplant used cord blood • In 2012, 33 percent of cord blood transplants were for minority patients

Access to Transplant

Page 22: NMDP and Be the Match Registry Overview

• With expanded indications and age ranges, the calculated “need” for unrelated transplant has increased by 25%

• NMDP facilitated transplants have grown by 200% overall and 250% for minorities during that same timeframe

• Challenge – Meeting only 25% of the need in Minority communities and 50% of the need in the Caucasian population

. 22

Access has improved since 2006

Page 23: NMDP and Be the Match Registry Overview

We advance transplant science through our research partner, CIBMTR®

(Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research)

• Improved matching: making

it easier and faster to find the best donor or cord blood unit

• Improved timing: earlier

transplant is leading to better outcomes

• Advances in treatment:

making transplant a better option for patients 51-75 years old.

23

Page 24: NMDP and Be the Match Registry Overview

We will continue to:

• Increase recruitment and availability of adult donors, cord blood and new cell sources.

• Help all patients get the

transplant they need, when they need it.

• Improve outcomes

through advances in research and clinical practice.

24

Future Goals

Page 25: NMDP and Be the Match Registry Overview

• Join the Be The Match Registry®

• Make a donation to: - grow the registry - help patients cover uninsured costs - advance research • Spread the word about

the opportunity to help save a life

• Help collect high quality cord blood units (CBUs)
