Deciduous DentitionMaxillary Canine
General considerations Crown wide MD.
MD is slightly less than the incisocervical measurement.

Maxillary Canine Does not resemble incisor (except root) MD constricted @ cervix Mesial, Distal surface appear convex A single well developed sharp cusp Long mesial & Short distal slope Line joining contact areas bisect line drawn
from cervix to tip of cusp Roots – Long, slender, tapering and twice
crown length
LABIAL ASPECT
Mesial & distal outlines bulge convexly to
cervical line.
The height of contour - at level of contact area.
Mesial- distal contact areas - located - same
level incisocervically (@ different levels
permanent canine)
Dr. Rooban Thavarajah
LABIAL ASPECT
Mesioincisal slope is normally longer than
distoincisal slope
Cervical line - even curvature apically.
No developmental depressions or
imbrication lines in root surface
Dr. Rooban Thavarajah
PALATAL ASPECT
Prominent cingulum, lingual & marginal ridges.
MP and DP fossae are present
A tubercle at cusp/ Lingual ridge
Root – a distal inclination
Dr. Rooban Thavarajah
PROXIMAL ASPECT
Labiolingually tooth is thicker Cervical line depth is less as compared to
incisors and even less in distal aspect Mesial - Similar to incisor except
Crown height – greater Cervical third greater Labiopalatally
Distal Reverse of mesial side
Dr. Rooban Thavarajah

Incisal edge
Diamond shaped
Tip of cusp distal to centre of crown
Mesial slope longer than distal slope ( X of
Lower canine, similar to permanent teeth)
