A person is said to be infertile when he/she finds it difficult to

conceive through natural means. An infertile person has not been able

to get pregnant or carry it’s pregnancy even after a year of trying.

In such cases, in order to conceive and more importantly stay pregnant

getting an infertility treatment like IVF treatment is important.

There are five basic steps to the procedure.

The procedure starts with monitoring and stimulating the development

of eggs in the ovaries. This step is then followed by collecting the

eggs and then securing the sperm.

The egg and the sperm are then combined together in the lab and are

provided an appropriate environment for fertilization and embryo

growth.

The procedure ends with the

transfer of these embryos in to

the uterus.

medications that are prescribed in

order to control the timing of the

ripening of the egg.

The first step is the ovulation induction which is then followed by

retrieval of eggs through a minor surgical procedure which uses

ultrasound imaging, further followed by follicular aspiration.

The second last step is the insemination. This is the process in which

the sperm and eggs are placed in incubators in the lab. The

fertilization occurs here.

In the last step of the process, the embryos are then transferred into the

woman’s uterus from one to six days later.
