Got Questions About Dental Implants? A Rancho
Palos Verdes Dentist Tells All! PART 3
Welcome to the third installment of this four-part article series on dental implants and the
answers an experienced Rancho Palos Verdes dental implants surgeon has to our pressing
questions about this revolutionary teeth replacement technology. Previously, in Part 2, the
following insights were made:
Dental implants can be placed in a single surgical appointment of one or a few hours
only. In other words, you can get new teeth in one day!
After an initial consultation with a certified dental implant surgeon in Palos Verdes, you
may be required to undergo one or more treatment planning sessions before you come
in for your procedure.
Dental implants can last several decades if you remain in good health and continue to
care properly for your teeth.
Let’s continue with more questions, this time turning our attention to full mouth
reconstruction…
Question: Can an elderly patient get dental implants to replace removable dentures?
Answer: “Oh yes, absolutely. In fact, many if not most of our patients come to us in dentures
looking for an alternative teeth replacement solution,” says the dental implants surgeon.
“There is a wonderful and very effective dental implant treatment available to Rancho Palos
Verdes and it’s called the All-on-4™. This protocol is designed to provide edentulous (toothless)
and near-edentulous patients or denture-wearers with a brand new set of fixed teeth in just
one surgical appointment and almost always without the need for bone grafting.
“Also, just to correct you slightly, not ALL denture-wearers are elderly. We’ve treated a great
number of patients in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s for edentulous and tooth-loss. The All-on-4™ is
for anyone of any age who has lost most or all of their teeth and who want a more
sophisticated solution; provided they are determined to be a candidate first.”
Question: Can you tell us a little more about bone grafting and why this is necessary for
certain patients?
Answer: “The roots of your teeth keep your jawbone strong and bulky. So when a patient loses
his or her natural teeth, this bone atrophies and wastes away over time, just like muscles do
when you don’t exercise them,” explains the . “Few Rancho Palos Verdes All-on-4 dentist
people realize the damage they allow to be done to their jawbones when they have dentures
fitted, because dentures don’t stimulate the bone. As a result, this hard tissue deteriorates over
time and to such an extent that when the patient comes to us for, they don’t have sufficient
bone to support dental implants.
“Bone grafting provides a solution to this by bulking up the existing jawbone and encouraging
the growth of new, healthy tissue, however it is a lengthy and invasive procedure. The good
news is, the All-on-4™ typically avoids the need for bone grafting, so we are able to achieve
great outcomes for patients in a much shorter time and at a far lesser expense to the patient!”
Question: Would you say the All-on-4™ is the go-to solution for Palos Verdes residents
requiring new teeth?
Answer: “If you have lost most or all of your teeth; if you have been told by your present
dentist that you aren’t a candidate for dental implant because you have lost a lot of bone tissue
to atrophy; and/or if you wear dentures… the All-on-4™ could be the perfect teeth replacement
solution for you,” says the . “I say could because Rancho Palos Verdes dental implant surgeon
we can only determine absolutes after a consultation with you, but in most cases the All-on-4™
is the way forward for people requiring new teeth. It truly is a wonderful treatment.”
