Maurice Prout
Introduction Maurice Prout is a professor at Widener University’s Institute for
Graduate Clinical Psychology in Chester, Pennsylvania. Possessing more than 40 years of experience in education and psychology, Maurice Prout holds membership with the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI).
SEPI is an international organization promoting the creation of psychotherapies that combine theory, clinical practice, and inquiry. The organization’s quarterly newsletter, The Integrative Therapist, offers insight and discussion on the integration of clinical knowledge presented by researchers and practicing clinicians from all over the world.
In a recent issue, the newsletter published an interview with a member of the Chinese American Psychoanalytic Alliance (CAPA). CAPA offers training to mental health professionals in China, a country where there are currently few qualified experts in psychodynamic psychotherapy.

The programs designed by CAPA offer a unique training method. They are presented in a real-time, online video format, and are taught by professionals from countries all around the world including the USA, Israel, Mexico, France, and Germany, among others.
The basic training course is made up of weekly classes that span two years, and each installment is attended by as many as 45 students taught by some of the 400 members of CAPA. It is the alliance’s goal to prepare these Chinese trainees so that in time they will be qualified to take over the psychodynamic psychotherapy education of their own mental health professionals.
