Exercise Activities For Kids Under 12 Exercise activities for kids benefit not only your children

but you as well. For them it really keeps them fit and healthy.

More specifically it can also help with their gross motor skills, reflexes, agility and muscle development.

Most parents don’t want to wait for their kids to become overweight or obese because it puts lots of stress on the whole family.

They also don’t want to wait for the doctor to be the one to tell them their child’s health is poor.

Kids exercise combats any worries or stress for the parents since it’s such a positive activity. The trick is finding ones your kids like.

Kids at this age don’t need large muscles. More than anything, they need to be flexible and able to endure stresses placed on the body whether they are playing sports or just playing rough.

For this exercise, first set up a perimeter using masking tape, rope or anything that can serve as a border. With each exercise the child will start at the perimeter and travel across the room and back to the starting line. You’ll need a pair of dumbbells (or two full water bottles or jugs will work equally well).

Starting at the perimeter line, first have her do lunges across the room, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Once she gets the hang of the lunges, add to the exercise by having her curl the dumbbells as she lunges to the floor.

weights. With legs remaining next to each other, have her leap as far as she can. Continue leaping across the room.

The weights can either stay by her side or she can raise them over her head as she jumps. Then, have her do scissor steps across the floor. To do this, she should face the side of the room, cross one leg in front of the other, and then cross that leg behind the other, traveling across the floor. This is a common warm-up for athletes. To add arms to the exercise, have her raise and lower the weights as she does the scissor steps.

There are many other exercises you could do with weights and an open floor. Have her come up with her own exercise. Just make sure she doesn’t do anything that could cause an injury.

Back to Back StandingWith a group of children, pair each of them up with another child that is approximately the same height and size. Have the children sit on the floor with their backs to each other.

Show them how to link their arms together and explain that they are to come to a standing position by pushing against each other.

They must give an equal amount of pressure or the task will be more difficult. This will teach them the value of teamwork.
