What is health?

• Many people think that health is simply about how you feel.

• However you can look and feel great, and still be unhealthy.

• TRUE health is determined by how well your body works… mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially.

• Becoming healthier involves you taking a greater participation in your own health care.

“Aging poorly is not inevitable. You do have a choice. Based on your parents’ and grandparents experiences, you’ll see where you’re headed unless you

choose a different path.!” Eric Plasker

The Illness-Wellness Continuum

Wellness is a process, never a static state. This model shows the relationship of the Wellness and Treatment Paradigms. Moving from the center to the left shows a progressively worsening state of health. Moving to the right of center indicates increasing levels of health and well-being. The Treatment Paradigm can only take you to the neutral point, where the symptoms of disease have been alleviated. The Wellness Paradigm, utilized at any point on the continuum, moves one towards ever higher levels of wellbeing.

Hydration

• The earth is 66% water • A healthy body is about 66% water • Lean tissue is 73% water • Fat tissue is 14% water

Yes how may of us hydrate properly each day? We can lose up to 1.5 litres per day just by breathing, urinating and sweating…. So you need that just to break even!

• Being just 2-3% dehydrated can significantly affect short term memory and cognitive function, yet many of us exist in a chronic state of mild dehydration.

also have optimum pH levels with

usually the same bell curve seen

with enzymes.”

Once hormones and their receptors are outside their optimum pH,

they continue to function as do enzymes, but at a reduced rate. For

example, it may take twice as much of the same hormone at the new

pH set point to induce an equal response from the hormone.

(1994) 42, 299.

Toxins

• We use billions of tons of pesticides each year. These are Neuro toxins - to the nervous system of the insects.

• Hormonal disrupters - oestrogen's and xenoestrogen’s - poison the endocrine system of the animals

• This resulting in so much of the food we eat being toxic. •
