Fitness
April Lariosa CentesMAT-PE1st semester
exerciseany bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. It is performed for various reasons including strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance, as well as forthe purpose of enjoyment.
exerciseClassifications
Aerobic
Anaerobic
Increase cardiovascular enduranceWalking, jogging, hiking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing etc.
Increase short term muscle strengthPush ups, lunges, bicep curls, weight training etc.
Effects of trainingTrained
Untrained
Participates regularly in exercise adapted to his needs and thereby attains a state of physical fitness
Individuals who allows his muscles to get soft and flabby and is in poor physical condition
Effects of trainingGeneral Health of Heart Muscle
The heart is a large muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body. Valves inside the heart open and close.
Oxygen – rich BloodEnters the heart from the lungs and goes out to the body
Oxygen – rich BloodEnters the heart from the body and goes out to the lungs
Principles of use and disuse applies
Effects of trainingStroke Volume Heart
Greater volume of blood per heartbeat pumped through the body of the trained person than the untrained person
Effects of trainingPulse Rate
The trained individual has a lower pulse rate than the untrained person
Effects of trainingBlood
The rate of lactic acid is lower in the trained individual, resulting in a lower blood lactate concentration.
Lactic Acid- the substance that is transferred from glucose when a muscle contracts.
The more lactic acid, the more fatigued an individual will become.
Effects of trainingArterial Blood Pressure
Increase in blood pressure is less in trained individual than in the untrained individual
Effects of trainingRed Corpuscles
Bone Marrow becomes redder, indicating an increased rate of blood manufacture
Effects of trainingRespiration
Trained - 6-8 breaths/minUntrained- 18-20 breaths/min
Deep diaphragmatic breathing in the trained person, hence the diaphragm moves very little. A trained individual takes in smaller amounts of air in greater amounts of air and absorbs oxygen from the air in greater amounts than untrained individuals
Effects of trainingNervous System
Enhances nerve-muscle coordination
Nervous fatigue maybe lessened by pleasant physical activityNervous fatigue accumulated through anxiety or mental work is offset through muscular activity
Factor affecting fitnessTobacco and Fitness
SmokingSpeeds up the pulse rate, raises the blood pressure, constricts the blood vessels and may cause damage
Factor affecting fitnessAlcohol and Fitness
Alcohol is depressant. It depresses the central nervous system, affecting memory, judgment and decisions.
The control of lower brain centers is lost, reaction time is slowed, physical and emotional pain are reacted to more slowly
Factor affecting fitnessDrug and Fitness
•Detach the person from reality. •Make oblivious to danger. •Induce a sense of well- being by postponing feelings of fatigue
