Restricting type• Restricted diet• Excessive exercise• Often try to avoid eating in

the presence of other people

• At the table, may eat excessively slowly and cut the food into pieces, or even secretly dispose of it

Binge-eating/purging type

• Either or both of the behaviors occur

• A breakdown of restraint that results in periods of binge-eating

BULIMIA NERVOSA( B N )

Definition: Bulimia Nervosa involves binge

eating followed by compensatory behavior to rid the body of what has just been consumed.

Criteria• A. Recurring binge eating – excessive quantities

consumed within a discrete period of time without a sense of control over what or how much is consumed

• B. Recurring inappropriate weight gain – such as self –induced vomiting , misuse of laxatives , or fasting.

• C. Binge eating and compensatory behaviors occur on average at least twice a week for the three months.

• D. self-evaluation is excessively influenced by body shape and weight.

This subtype describes

Nonpurging Type This subtype describes

presentations in which the person has used other inappropriate compensatory behaviors, such as fasting or excessive exercise, but has not regularly engaged in self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas during the current episode.
