DON GARY YOUNG

Don Gary Young is the founder and CEO of Young Living Essential Oils, a world leader in essential oils, aromatherapy products, and wellness solutions. He is also the founder of the D. Gary Young Foundation, which provides medical, educational and economic support to individuals and communities in need worldwide.

Gary Young grew up in the mountains of Idaho and the Canadian wilderness, where he learned about nature’s power at a young age. At age 24, he suffered a near fatal accident that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. He expanded his knowledge of nutrition and natural therapies to help perpetuate his healing.

How It All Began

Gary Young went back to school and studied health and the human body. He received his degrees in naturopathy and nutrition. He was eventually able to progress from the wheelchair, to a walker, to crutches, to walking unassisted.

Due to his own success, people began coming to him for advice, which led him to open his own clinic. At his clinic, 13 years after the accident, he was introduced to the profound effects of pure essential oils.

Gary Young learned more about essential oils from his patients at his clinic. He began using them himself and found the oils sustainably reduced his pain. He decided he wanted to share the outstanding power of pure essential oils with the world. Thus, Young Living Essential Oils was born.

Gary Young developed his first organic herb farm and distillery in Spokane, Washington in 1990. Shortly after he created more farmland in Utah and Idaho, where be cultivated many herbs including lavender, peppermint, melissa, and clary sage. By 1994, Young Living Essential Oils was born.

Today Young Living is the world’s largest, privately-owned essential oil company. Headquartered in Lehi, Utah, the company has farms and offices all over the world, including in Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan and Singapore. Located in Highland Flats, Idaho, the company also has the largest and most technically advanced distillery for the production of essential oils in North America.

Gary Young sought to help others worldwide live a healthy lifestyle and achieve success through the use of essential oils. Therefore, he founded the D. Gary Young Foundation. The foundation’s goal is “to educate, awaken and inspire individuals to love, honor and live a healthy lifestyle.”

Recent Projects

• Building two schools and a water system for the Tarahumara Indians in the Copper Canyon of Durango, Mexico

• Building an elementary school in Guayaquil, Ecuador, funded as a model school that is vaccine-free; a school where the children help cultivate their own organic garden that contributes to their healthy, organic lunches; and where they learn about eating better and healing their bodies naturally with what Mother Nature provides. One year later a second edition was built for the preschool and cultural arts programs.

• Contributing financial support to universities researching essential oils

• Contributing a years’ supply of Omega Blue to The Heritage School in Provo, Utah, a residential treatment center for at-risk adolescents

• Helping with earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan

• Providing relief for those with leprosy in India

• Helping with Hurricane Katrina relief

• Providing support for the Cinterandes Foundation Mobile Surgery Unit
