Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Follicular Unit Removal or FUEGrowing is a process whereinpersonal follicular modelscontaining 1 to 4 hair areeliminated under local anesthesia;this small elimination generallyuses small blows of between0.6mm and 1.0mm across. Eachstring is then placed into smallreceiver sites made by choicesusing a positioning device. Becausepersonal hair roots are eliminated,only small, punctate marks remainand any post-surgical pain isreduced. As no suture eliminationis required, restoration from FUEis within 7 days.

The night of your hair transplant, and for the next few nights afterwards, you areencouraged to sleep with your head elevated on pillows. Medication is given for sleepand pain (if needed).

The morning after your hair transplant surgery, you will remove the headband andshower and shampoo your scalp once – just for the first day. We’ll call you the nextday to make sure that everything is OK.

When showering, you will be instructed to gently clean the transplanted area with aspecial shampoo. The follicular unit grafts are made to fit snugly into the recipientsites and will not be dislodged in the shower, if you follow the instructions given toyou.

Generally patients can resume normal daily routine almost immediately. Limitedexercise can be started in the first week. You should avoid strenuous exercise forseveral weeks following hair restoration surgery, depending upon the type of donorincision and the laxity of your scalp.

You can also have a haircut at this point. You are able to dye your hair, if you choose,four weeks after the hair transplant. You should avoid alcohol for three days followingyour hair replacement procedure and abstain from smoking for two weeks.
