Cold Therapy Offers
HotHot Growth
The cold therapy market is currently expanding with growth forecast at 7.7%. In 2005, revenues were at $78.6 million. By 2012 those revenues are expected to grow to $132 million. Already figuring your commission? Let’s break it down further.
This highly price sensitive product averages $186 for powered units, and $97 for non-powered units. With over 12 active competitors, Bledsoe comes in at $115 for the best unit in the marketplace.

Applications
Ice or chilled water is an inexpensive method for reducing the symptoms of pain and providing comfort following injuries or surgery
with less need for drugs.
Cold therapy also helps to reduce muscle spasms, swelling and tissue damage. Additionally, some research has shown that application of cold therapy to a post-operative shoulder helps prevent damage to the articular cartilage which helps for better rehabilitation later on.
Because cold therapy is such a well-recognized, safe, inexpensive and effective treatment method, patients and clinicians are very supportive of its use, which contributes to increased sales, even though they are not typically covered under insurance.
Currently an estimated 90% of cold therapy systems sales are believed to be in the post-operative orthopedic segment, indicating significant room for growth into the post-op market for other types of surgery.

Four Keys to Icing the Competition
Bledsoe Cold Control is an easy, reliable way to provide continuous cold therapy for pain and soft tissue swelling from surgery or trauma. The Bledsoe Cold Control recycling unit is unique. Here are the keys reasons Bledsoe’s Cold Control outperforms the competition:
1. Safe No portion of the Cold Control pad is ever less than 40
2. Longer Lasting9.5 to 12.5 hours of continuous therapy -- the longest cold therapy available
Bledsoe’s Cold Control can run over 1-1/2 hours longer than the Breg Polar Care 500 under the exact same conditions
3. Consistent Temperature Re-circulating safety system – cycles faster, gain/cycle is less than 2 for a consistent temperature
Unit delivers optimal temperatures….40 to 48F at the pad. The provides a therapeutic 46 to 52 at the subcutaneous tissue level
4. ConvenientLargest ice capacity – 14 quarts – of any single-patient use thermal unit
Thinner, lighter materials reduce weight and leave more room for ice
Bledsoe Engineered for control
Other units are slower and have weaker pumps. This allows the water to heat up too much inside the pad and then 32water is let back in. So part of the pad is at 32. This is where the freezing occurs. The optimal range is between 42 and 48 at the pad or about 46 to 52 at the subcutaneous tissue level. It is possible to put a thermal barrier between the pad and the skin, but this is not always done by patients. If they don’t use a barrier, then fall asleep, they could get cold burned if they are using competitor’s systems.
We have no automatic shut-off and do not need one. Our wrap will never go under 40. Our prevention of frostbite is due to the recycling safety system. Because we recycle over 80 percent of return water from the pad with less than 20% fresh 32 degree water added to this recycle mix, we cannot get below a safe 40.
Helpful Tips
1. Patients should add ice when the unit will no longer cool to the required temperature no matter how cold one sets the knob.
2. Our new blue backlit LCD thermometer measures the temperature of the water going to the patient pad, not coming back from the pad.
