Jennifer studied at Universities GadjahMada (UGM) and Muhammadiyah (UMM)
in 2002.
After ACICIS she won a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University in 2006.
Jennifer is currently doing a PhD in International Law and hopes to have a career
in international dispute resolution and human rights in the Asia-Pacific.

Matt studied at UGM in 2002.
After ACICIS he returned to Australia to complete his medical degree.
In 2007 Matt went to Brunei on a 6-week general surgery rotation; 2008 saw him in
Padang doing a 2-month elective in a public hospital focusing on infectious
diseases and emergency medicine. Matt foresees his medical career involving
work in Indonesia/Asia.

Simon took part in the 2008 Journalism
Professional Practicum program in
Jakarta.
His internship was at radio station 68H, where he did several on air stories.
Simon is now back in Sydney finishing
his Masters in Journalism degree.

In 2007 Rebecca studied Islamic
Business at the Indonesian Islamic
University (UII) in Yogyakarta.
Whilst there she also did an internship
at a refuge for street children.
She is currently looking for a media
position with an NGO in Indonesia.

Martha studied at UGM in 2001.
After ACICIS she completed an Honours thesis on Indonesia’s decentralisation laws on foreign investment before beginning work as a senior
research analyst for RepuTex.
In 2006 Martha went to Shanghai to establish the firm’s China office and lead research into
the development of criteria for Chinese companies seeking to safeguard against
reputation and CSR related risk exposures.

Deanne studied at UGM and UMM in
2002/3. She wrote her Malang field
report on street children in Yogyakarta.
After ACICIS she worked as a
translator/editor for an NGO in Jakarta called Rahima.
Deanne is now a Features Deputy
Editor with The Jakarta Post, rubbing
shoulders with celebrities like Nicolas Saputra (right).

Robert studied at UGM and UMM in 1997/98.
After ACICIS he went to Timor Leste and worked as a consultant on bilateral &
multilateral aid projects.
Robert has completed a Masters of International and Comm. Development at Deakin University and is currently doing a
PhD in International Development.

Claire Hadley studied at UGM in 2005. Whilst there she played for UGM in a National Student Hockey competition.
After ACICIS she completed an Honours project in Anatomy and Human Biology.
Claire hopes to go into scientific research and a PhD, with the opportunity to
collaborate with her Indonesian colleagues.

Ulla Keech-Marx studied at UGM and UMM in 2002.
After ACICIS she completed her B Asian Studies (Indonesian), achieving First Class
Honours.
Ulla is currently working on the Indonesia Program at AusAID, soon to be posted to Kupang as the Aus Government Rep for
development in Eastern Indonesia.

Luke studied at UGM in 2000.
After ACICIS he worked as a Consultant to the International Labour Organization
in Jakarta and as a Lawyer at Minter Ellison in Melbourne.
Luke is currently on a Commonwealth Scholarship, taking a Master of Laws at
the University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies).

Drew studied at UGM and UMM in 2007. He wrote his Malang field report
on the traditional oil industry in the Cepu Bloc.
Drew is currently completing a Law/Asian Studies degree, and plans
on returning to Indonesia to seek employment.

Sunny studied at UGM in 1999.
After ACICIS she volunteered as a translator for an orangutan research
project in Malaysia. She then managed the Gunung Palung Orangutan Project in
West Kalimantan, before doing her Research Masters on hybrid gibbons in
Central Borneo.
Sunny is now doing her PhD on the impacts of oil palm development on rural
livelihoods in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Siaan studied at UGM in 2004.
After ACICIS she worked at the Department of Immigration and
Citizenship, married an Indonesian from West Java and won an Endeavour Award
to research in Malaysia for 12 months.
Sian is currently in her final year of a PhD on Malaysia-Australia relationships.

Clare took part in the 2008
Journalism Professional Practicum. Her internship was at Metro TV in Jakarta.
Clare is currently finishing her double degree in Journalism and Law.
She is also reporting and producing Red Carpet/Entertainment news for TV1 and Sci-Fi Channels (Foxtel), thanks to her experience
at Metro TV.

Fran studied at UGM in 2001.
After ACICIS she worked for five years as a policy officer for the Victorian Office
of Multicultural Affairs.
Fran is currently on assignment in Kunming, China with the Australian
Youth Ambassadors for Development program.
“Through the ACICS program I developed an abiding love of Indonesia, her culture, people and language. It is a terrific program and I’m
very glad I did it.”

Jessica Lea Dunn studied at UGM and Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) in 2007.
After ACICIS she won a travelling scholarship to broaden her career experience
overseas.
She is currently finishing her degree in Industrial Design and is hoping to use her
scholarship money to organise a design internship with XS Project in Jakarta.

Lisa took part in the 2008 JPP. Her internship was at ABC's Jakarta Bureau.
Amongst other things, she researched background and talent for a 14-minute ABC
TV ‘Foreign Correspondent’ story.
Lisa is currently completing her final year of journalism and working as an assistant
producer for ABC's Australian Network.

Clare studied at UGM and UMM in 2004.
After ACICIS she worked at a local urban community development NGO in Yogya
for a year.
In 2007 Clare completed an honours thesis on Muslim Intellectualism in Indonesia.
She is now working at The Asia Foundation in Jakarta on Islam and
development programs.

Adelle studied at UGM in 2006.
After ACICIS she worked as Ministerial Liaison Officer in the office of a South
Australian government Minister.
Adelle is now working as the Central and Eastern European Know-how
Coordinator for a London city law firm.
“My ACICIS experience gave me a better understanding of people and my place in the world; it has left an indelible imprint on my
life.”

Allison studied at UGM in 2007.
Whilst in Yogyakarta she wrote a research report on Indonesia-Australia
relations.
Allison is now studying for her PhD on energy security in Southeast Asia. She
also tutors for the School of Government at the University of
Tasmania.

skills.”

Willy studied at UGM in 2006, including a semester at the Centre for Religious &
Cross Cultural Studies.
He is currently doing Honours in Asian Studies; studying the role of Pesantren in Indonesian Communities. In the future
Willy hopes to begin a career in education in Indonesia.
“The most valuable result of my time in Indonesia has been the interest in religion I
gained. Studying Islam is gradually revealing to me the truth about a religion
which is much maligned and misunderstood in Australia.”

Dylan took part in the 2008 JPP. His internship was at State Broadcaster TVRI.
After ACICIS he went to Aceh with World Vision before accepting a Communications job at the International HQ of the Centre for
International Forestry Research.
Dylan just finished a speaking tour about World Visions work in Aceh.

Erin studied at UGM in 2006.
After ACICIS he worked as a reporter for a regional newspaper on the SA-VIC border before
heading across to Perth to fill in at the ACICIS Secretariat.
He is now on an AYAD volunteer placement with the International Organization for Migration in
Jakarta, working as a media and communications officer.
“If it wasn’t for ACICIS, I probably would never have visited Indonesia let alone studied there. Now it’s like a
second home to me and I can’t stop going back!”
