to find affordable housing Disempowered and marginalized in
our state of denial Socially and environmentally
isolated causing an epidemic of stress
The Problem

Seniors and Poverty
Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) 2009 COLA will keep 5 million seniors
living below poverty line.1
Seniors Can’t Keep Up 2001-2008 Medicare premiums have
soared by more than 93 percent while the COLA has crept up just 19 percent.2
It Gets Worse
A SUSTAINABLE VISION FOR AGING IN COMMUNITY
Affordable But Unavailable For every senior housed TEN more
eligible seniors are waiting.3
The average wait time is 13.4 months.3
By the River has over 70 people on a waiting list for 41 beds.
It took 7 years to secure the funding required to build our residential center.
