• Heartbeat point system

• Minimum required points for certain criteria

• Criteria divided by links of chain of survival

• Recertification every 2 years

CRITERIA HEARTBEAT POINT SYSTEM

Early Access & Recognition

•10 Heartbeats for each event with less then 20 participants

- Public Education on heart health and prevention, 911 access, Stroke, Heart Attack, & Cardiac Arrest warning signs

- 5 Heartbeat bonus for events with 20+ participants

• 10 points for School MERPs *Required

CRITERIA HEARTBEAT POINT SYSTEM

Early CPR

•10 points for each event with at least 10 participants

- Free Public Education on CPR & AED use

- CPR/AED training for high school *Required

•5 points for each event with at least 10 participants

- CPR & AED Certification classes that require a fee

- Local businesses, community groups, & local agencies

• Bystander CPR instructions provided by Dispatch Personnel

CRITERIA HEARTBEAT POINT SYSTEM

Early Defibrillation

•10 points for each Public AED

- Must be easily identified and clearly marked with signage

- Building entrances should identify the presence of an AED

•10 points for First Responders equipped with AEDs

- Fire, Police, First Responder group, or Reserve EMS

CRITERIA HEARTBEAT POINT SYSTEM Early Advanced Life Support & Post-resuscitative care

•10 points for ALS response to all medical emergencies

•10 points for policy of Transport of Post-Cardiac Arrest patients to facilities with minimum PCI & Therapeutic Hypothermia capabilities. Exception within the policy are permissible.

•10 points for written sustainability plan *Required

- Plan for sustained Public Education

- EMS cardiac arrest registry

- EMS administrated Supported & Structured Debriefing with all involved responders

• 200 Heartbeats Required

• Minimum of 60 Heartbeats for Public Education & AED placement

• Minimum of 40 Heartbeats for trained FR w/ AEDs, ALS, and Sustainability Plan

• 1 CPR/AED education event for students for every highschool

• 1 CPR/AED education event for students for every highschool

• Application will be on BCEMS website

• Worksheets

• Application submitted to EMS for review with BC Health Department

• Once application is approved EMS and Health Department will coordinate with city for designation event

• Road signs and plaque will be awarded at event
