DESCRIPTION
Brain Rules is a current look at what science has found out about the human mind. And let me tell you, it's utterly exciting news. New research shows the brain is even more powerful than we previously thought. The majority of the research our current knowledge of the brain is based off of has only be discovered in the past 10 years. Meaning that we're about to go through a groundswell of information regarding what the human mind is and isn't actually capable of. Better put a helmet on because this presentation is going to blow your mind!

1. Exercise helps you think better
2. Our brains have evolved so we can
survive
Your brain is like any other muscle in your body, you
can grow it
Darwinism at its finest
What YOU do and learn in life physically changes what your brain looks like – it literally rewires it.
3. Every brain is different
We’re terrible multi-taskers
The brain is not capable of multi-tasking. We can talk and breathe, but when it comes to higher level tasks, we just can’t do it.
4. We’re getting really good at
ignoring
5. Repeat to remember
6. Remember to repeat
If you want to remember something, make it more complex.
Group 1: Count the number of letters with diagonal lines and the number without.
Group 2: Think about the meaning of each word and rate, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much you like or dislike the word.

8. We don’t learn when we’re
stressed
Being happy or sad affects the way your immune system works
9. We learn best when we engage
several of the senses
Smell is unusually effective at evoking memory.
10. Vision trumps all other senses
We are incredible at remembering pictures. Hear a piece of information, and three days later you'll remember 10% of it. Add a picture and you'll remember 65%
11. Men and women’s brains are
genetically different.
“Men and women respond differently to acute stress:
Women remember the emotional details. Men get the gist.”
Males are more severely afflicted by schizophrenia than females.
By more than 2 to 1, women are more likely to get depressed than men, a figure that shows up just after puberty and remains stable for the next 50 years.
Males exhibit more antisocial behavior.
Females have more anxiety. Most alcoholics and drug addicts are male.
Most anorexics are female.
12. At the core, humans are all curious.
How will you use your brain to its full potential?
