Plants from the events BS5A.1 (T2) 18, BS6H.3 (T6) 10 and BS5A.2 (T2)
19 showed high levels of resistance to pod borer (larval survival 0 - 35%
compared to 80 to 95% in Semsen; larval weights 0.00 - 1.35 mg compared
to 5.74 in Semsen. Transgenic chickpea lines with Bt Cry2Aa gene highly
effective for the control of pod borer, H. armigera, and can be used for
increasing the production and productivity of chickpea.

Transgenic Chickpea for Controlling the Pod Borer, Helicoverpa armigera
Helicoverpa armigera is one of the most devastating pests of cotton, grain legumes, cereals, and vegetables. It causes an estimated loss of $5 billion, despite application of insecticides costing $2 billion annually in semi arid tropics (SAT).
Leaf damage by Helicoverpa armigera in transgenic (A) and non-transgenic plants (B) of chickpea.
