The Royal Dukes Adam De Niger of Normandy The African American Addison family of Maryland and Washington, DC trace their genealogical roots back to the Congo, North Africa, Scandinavia, England and Normandy. They are direct descendants of Robert “Curthose”Adam de Niger, who was the oldest son of King William “the Conqueror’s” the Bastard King of England. Robert became the Duke of Normandy from 1087 to 1108. The Sons of Adam, (Addi) - son Their family’s name changed after they migrated to England. They became the sons of Adam spelled as (Addison). Their line spans specifically from Adam de Niger, the 8th great grandson of King William “the Conqueror”. They colonized Cumberland and Westmoreland, England on the border of Scotland and England around 1050. At Torpenhow, England they established a branch of their St. Michael’s parish of Light & Dark. Because of the Addison’s royal ancestry their name has been immortalized at the Kensington Palace belonging to Queen Elizabeth II. Addison Crest, Rd, Ln, St and gardens are all landmarks and street names which surround the palace. The African American branch of the family inherited the “Crown Jewel” of Maryland from both Thomas Addison Jr. and Rev. Walter D. Addison.
