PROTECTION OF ENVIRONMENT BY THE USE OF FLY ASH IN
CONCRETE ROAD CONSTRUCTION
PRESENTED BYG.NIKHIL KUMAR
GENERAL INTRODUCTION TYPES OF FLY ASH PROPERTIES OF CEMENT WITH FLY ASH &
FLY ASH TESTS ON FLY ASH USING CONCRETE USES OF FLY ASH BENEFITS OF FLY ASH USING CONCRETE APPLICATIONS OF FLY ASH USING CONCRETE EFFECT OF FLY ASH ON ENVIRONMENT CONCLUSION
CONTENT
The unit cost of concrete can be reduced by partial replacement of cement with fly ash.
The disposal of fly ash is one of the major issues for environmental.
Dumping of fly ash as waste material causes severe environmental problems.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.ORIGION OF FLY ASH
Residue collected from the combustion
of natural coal
It is produced by the thermal power plantIn India , every year
70 million kegs of fly ash is produced.
2.Why fly ash use in concrete
using fly ash to replace Portland cement in concrete not only provides the benefit of recycling fly ash but also reduces emissions.
Using Fly ash can reduced the total amount of energy needed to make concrete pavement
Class F: produced from the burning of anthracite or
bituminous coal Silica, alumina , iron oxide & other constituents It is having low calcium content is <15% High strength & high degree of workability is lowClass C: produced from the semi-bituminous coal It is having high calcium content is <15% High strength &high degree of workability is high Relatively high of calcium oxide lesser of
silica ,alumina , & iron oxide
Types of fly ash
Fly ash with cement:
Strength is more Durability is high Shrinkage is high
It is harder material Plasticity is more
Segregation is low
Cement :
Strength is Less Durability is less Shrinkage is
moderately low It is less harder
material Plasticity moderately
is less Segregation is high
Comparison of Properties of cement with fly ash & cement
Fresh concrete test
Hardened concrete test
Tests of fly ash
1.Workability : The slumped
concrete takes various shapes, and according to the profile of slumped concrete, the slump is termed as true slump, shear slump or collapse slump.
Fresh concrete test
To determine the quantity of water required to produce a concrete paste of standard consistency. The standard consistency is that consistency, which will permit the vicat plunger to penetrate to a point 5 to 7mm from the bottom of the vicat mould
2.Standard consistency :
3.Compaction factor test : C.F=wt of partially compacted concrete/wt of fully compacted concreteCompaction factor should not more than 1, should not less than 0.90
Compression strength test:
Strength=applied load/ cross section area
Flexural strength test:
Strength=2*3.14/lbd
Tensile strength test :
Strength=max tensile load/ cross section area
Hardened concrete test
It is improves the strength
To increase the workability of the concrete
To reduce the heat of hydration
To increase the durability To construct cost effect
construction To reduce the demand of
land of fly ash disposal To save the environment
Uses of fly ash
Benefits of fly ash using concrete
It is used in buildings
It is used in roads
It is used in bridges
It is used in dams also
Application of fly ash using concrete
Global warming and climate conditions change are increasing important issues
Many governments are looking at different ways to reduce green house gas emissions
Effect of fly ash on environment
F
From this project we conclude that the fly ash based concrete in road construction is the far better than normal concrete with out fly ash
Fly ash use in concrete improves all the properties of concrete
To construct the cost –effective construction
Conclusion :
