So why do we need to act Over the past 25 years Australia’s competitive position has been slowly declining compared to other OECD nations. We rank 23 of 26 OECD nations for business collaboration on innovation. We rank last of 30 nations for business research collaboration And we rank in middle of pack for business returns on research. Other advanced countries are reforming their economies and Australia needs to do the same: Reduce cost of doing business Strengthen networks and linkages Improve innovation system as a whole

This slide shows the five industry growth centres established to date: Food and Agriculture Advanced Manufacturing Medical and Pharmaceutical Mining Equipment and Technical Services Oil, Gas and Energy Resources The government announced the sixth growth centre-Cyber Security- before xmas These are targeted sectors with high contributions to GDP; the growth centres will be: Industry led Build on sector competitiveness Prioritise limited govt resources Link across existing initiatives Build service delivery of sector

Importantly, we are industry led with Director having wide domain experience in the sector. Our Directors: Industry experienced, research, small company, mutinational, Oil Gas , Coal Seam Gas Uranium Keith Spence Erica Smyth Pia Turcinov Professor Andrew Garnett Tony Nunan And we are looking to add an experience coal director. We are very pleased to have announced that Miranda Taylor will be our CEO and we have three key staff appointed to build our connections networks with industry both here and in other states: Jill Stajduhar, Industry-Research Nigel Haywood-Education and Workskills Craig banks-Supply Chain Development.
