ESF 2011 TO 2013 - Youth

Part of the Skills Funding Agency & Mayor of London match funded NEET into EET programmes

Supporting Volunteering into education, employment or training

Aim of the tender:

“Benefit a minimum of 457 young people in London who are NEET by supporting via volunteering activities improving their skills and aspirations and moving them to sustained education, training or employment for a minimum of 26 weeks”

Prime contractor: Reed in Partnership

Contract: SFA ESF Right Futures

Boroughs: Lambeth; Southwark; Croydon; Wandsworth; City of London

How did LITC deliver it?

Recruitment of Young People aged 16 to 19:

We were unable to engage with JCPs directly for the first 12 months for this project

How did LITC deliver it?

Matching with Voluntary hosts organisations & EET destinations

Engaged with Voluntary & Community SectorLocal Employer EngagementPartnership working - Education & Training providers

Over 60% of our participants approached LITC initially for an Apprenticeship.

55% of those who moved into EET entered an LITC’s Apprenticeship and Employment through our in-house Employer Engagement.

Work in partnership with your Prime Work with a Prime that you respect. You may not have the same value system i.e. Profit/Not for profit However, they will want to deliver this contract successfully and

support your organisation to develop.

Get the right team

The most important element of an ESF programme is having the right team in place.

They need to be:

Adaptable & open to changeGood engagement skillsStrong Information, Advice & Guidance, & support skillsExperience of Customer Relationship Management systemsAdmin & claims forms skills

Unfortunately on an ESF programme, there is a lot of paperwork, so a long side your Frontline team, you will need:

AdministratorQuality Assurance staff memberProject Manager

As a small organisation, you may have just one person doing all these things, but the bigger the contract the more difficult this will be.

Whatever you internal staffing policy is, your Prime partner, will still expect good performance on a monthly basis.

Final thoughts

Develop a strong delivery plan, which includes: Performance; Quality; Finance; Prepare for the unexpected.Find the right Team with the right skillsCheck your Claims paperwork before submitting itMonitor performance weeklyIf something isn’t working, change itRespect your Prime partnerEnsure the contract is in line with your Organisation’s objectives
