COMMUNITY PROJECTS EXPLAINED

➤ The DT Community will select desired projects or community partners at the beginning of the year

➤ Interactive sessions will be held with these organizations to discover their needs

➤ Organizations may then volunteer to partake in ideation and prototyping, or they may provide an ambassador which may be reached by the DT community for questions throughout the design exercises

Page 10: Design Thinking Community of Montreal

COMMUNITY PROJECTS MEETINGS : THE FORMAT

➤ Organization will present service

➤ Breakout groups will explore need in detail

➤ Interviewers will then share insights to the entire group

➤ This allows all team members to rotate across projects for each meeting (phase)

USING TECHNOLOGY AS ACCELERATOR

➤ Many tools and documents exist for DT communities, including from IDEO, Acumen+ and Stanford.

➤ Whenever possible, we will use existing material

➤ Any time we face a knowledge gap and feel our experience could contribute to the community, we will issue a ppt, blog article or document to share with the global DT Community

➤ We will use podcasts, videos, photography, blog articles and any other medium throughout our adventure to encourage community building, identity fostering and branding for our DT community in Montreal

Page 14: Design Thinking Community of Montreal

THE PEOPLELeadership & Sustainability Plan

Page 15: Design Thinking Community of Montreal

“Our main objective is building a sustainable DT community over time.

Page 16: Design Thinking Community of Montreal

THIS MEANS...

➤ Early identification of members' current and latent skills

➤ A community model based on co-creation

➤ A strong culture of Intrapreneurship

Page 17: Design Thinking Community of Montreal

OUR VISION FOR FOSTERING INTRAPRENEURSHIP IN OUR DT COMMUNITY

➤ Have Intrapreneurship Sponsors

➤ Founders, advisors and board members must actively encourage and promote intrapreneurhsip

➤ When someone volunteers, keep the intrapreneur involved in the project from A to Z

➤ Promotes sens of ownernship,

➤ Intrapeneur = driving force

➤ Give your DT Community intrapreneur autonmy

➤ Can access resources and exchange information without going through someone ‘’official’’

➤ Tolerate risks, failures & mistakes

➤ Celebrate failures as opportunities to learn and grow

➤ Let people fail so they can learn

➤ Have a long-term philosophy towards success

➤ 1-3 years for an idea to completely develop; don’t expect immediate results for some initiatives

➤ Have smaller milestones (quick, frequent iterations) to keep team motivated and celebrate the journey

➤ Give the teams the resources they need

➤ Limited budget & number of volunteers you can allocate

➤ Free the intrapraneurs up from other DT Community obligations if they have to focus on something big ➤ Reward according to dual promotion system

➤ Not everyone wants to become an executive member

➤ Find different, relevant ways to reward different kinds of contributions, from the small to the big ones

➤ Every bit of help is useful and makes a difference ; we each contribute what we can! ➤ Be generous with praise and honest with coaching feedback to help members develop their potential as leaders

TRAINING THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE➤ A half-day training will be offered to incoming leaders in the DT Community

➤ The first year, the training will be peer-based and created as a brainstorming and discussion facilitation workshop

➤ On subsequent year, the training will contain common core sections, followed by one-to-one knowledge transfer from outgoing to incoming executives

➤ Documentation from existing sources as well as documentation created through the Outreach initiative will be made available to leaders on the platform

➤ A portion of the training day will focus on Experential Learning - teaching the steps for leaders to learn by doing, and improve their knowledge without extensive formal training. This is coherent with the entrepreneurship model used throughout the DT community.

➤ The first year, a small group of people may fulfill some of the roles. As the community grows, more and more tasks will be delegated.

➤ The Bootcamp period will be a prime moment for current leaders to identify the leader potential within the community, and approach members for positions in the executive committee.

SISTER ORGANIZATIONS

➤ The Design Thinking Community’s main objective is to break down the barriers amongst silos and organizations ➤ One of the ways it does so is by gathering professionals of all fields

➤ Another way is by helping the community through community partners

➤ Another is through collaboration with sister organizations

➤ Benefits of Sister Organizations Collaboration

DT Community Sister Organization

Learn new Skills Recruitment (Possibility for joint-program memberships)

Establish ties with other industries & complementary

areas of knowledgeFulfill educational mandate

Knowledge exchange & transfer between both organizations

*

* Example:

The Toastmasters Competent Communicator Program could easily be done with a focus on preparing presentations for the DT Community

Similarly, the Rotaract Club could join the group for a semester as part of their vocational training & community service program.
