How it changed the way I teach andmy courses
- Aware of Western/Dutch bias- More aimed at global audience- Debate based on research/academic principles- Use more videos/flip the class room- Use videos for other purposes as well- Teach others how to make MOOCS (NITIM)

How it changed my research
- Terrorism is social construct = perception- A message attack not only a kinetic attack- Many opinion polls, but typically after major
events and mainly in the West- Small community of experts (from the West)- Many experiences (of victims) not heard

Other ideas on teaching & research
Translate elements of MOOCs in regular T&R- Peer review- Bring MOOC students to our classrooms: summer
courses, BAs, Mas- Collective research projects (gathering experiences;
definition project)- Use MOOCs as advertisement & ‘pre Bachelor’ or
pre-Master

Frustrations
- Flip the class room: “contact hours”. Suggestion:show it in a regular class room
- There is no ‘finished MOOC’: update videos- Videos out there: some examples “so 2013!”- Funding & staff for updates- Make money: SPOC or commercial courses (CPL)- Next level: MOOC part 2, MOOC-based MA- … Teach the world/ access to high quality higher
education for hundreds of millions!

Why innovation leads to restructuring
Innovations are game changers and so are MOOCs
- Students: new level of expectations
- Teachers: way we teach/do research
- Faculties/universities: way we organize teaching, …)
- Ministries of Education: accreditation, funding, …
- Global order of higher education: new coalitions &hot spots
Top down incentives were needed to get this started Bottom up (teachers and students) wants to go to the
next level
