1 What is Wellness?

1. Wellness and good health have historically been seen a freedom from disease.

2. Wellness is closely linked to your lifestyle and the choices you make.

3. Each individual has a responsibility to themselves to provide for the essentials of good

health – that being proper weight control, good nutrition, physical activity and exercise.

4. It’s important for you to be educated about your health and “take charge” of your life

and have healthy lifestyle-related goals.

5. The lifestyle choices you make will and do have a huge influence on your health and

your wellness.

6. The wellness approach to things encourages you to take responsibility for your own

personal well-being.

2 What Is the Definition of Nutrition?

1. Nutrition can be defined as diet, food, maintenance or nourishment.

2. This is the provision to the body of the right mixture of nutrients found in food for

attainment of proper health.

3. Nutrition is an aspect of life that is very important.

4. What we put into our bodies acts as fuel.

5. If you feed your body garbage it will not work well.

6. The better you fuel your body, the better it will behave for you in the future.

7. Moderation means eating neither too much nor too little of any food or nutrient.

8. Too much food can result in excess weight and even too much of certain nutrients, while

eating too little can lead to numerous nutrient deficiencies and low body mass.

9. Good nutrition should be part of an overall healthy lifestyle

1. Provide many essential nutrients that the body needs to restore energy, combat infection,

and function properly.

2. Processed Foods.

a) Far too many nutrients are lost through modern food processing;

b) Chemical farming techniques, preservatives and refining.

c) Even overcooking and microwaving take their toll.

d) Saturated fats and sugars which are present in so much of today’s food,

e) Our sick, injured and depleted bodies need additional help from nutritional

supplements.

3. Food alone isn't the key to a longer and healthier life.

4. Don't underestimate the influence of how and what you eat.

5 How do you start your day?

1. By having the same cereal each morning? Or is breakfast little more than a slice of burnt toast?:

A. Breakfast can be the most enjoyable, energising and versatile meal every day of the week.

2. With a cup of coffee while missing breakfast because you don't have time to eat?:

A. When every minute counts in the morning, you need a tasty and nutritious breakfast that

takes just seconds to make..

3. Your breakfast may appear healthy, but is it really giving you what your body needs in the

morning?

A. A breakfast packed with the right nutritional mix helps you stay healthier so you can

continue doing the things you enjoy.

It is very important to drink half a litre of water 30min before breakfast. Remember the digestive

system does not have teeth to chew all that food. The water makes it easier.

6 Your breakfast can affect the way you think, feel and act.

Simple carbohydrate-based Breakfast

1. High calories, low nutrients, low protein.

2. If you reach for simple carbohydrate-based breakfasts, you may notice that you have a short burst of energy,

followed by a drop, making you feel tired.

3. This is often due to the lack of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals, all of which are vital for balanced

energy for the day ahead.

No Breakfast

1. Low calories, low nutrients, low protein.

2. Do you skip breakfast and then snack to get the energy you need?

3. Skipping breakfast means your body has to draw on reserves of nutrients and water that will have depleted

overnight.

4. This can make you feel tired, irritable and prone to snacking on sugary foods for an energy boost.

Page 9: Wellness coaches level 10 r2

Nutritionally complete Healthy Breakfast1. Balanced calories, balanced nutrients, balanced protein.

2. A breakfast with the right nutritional mix sets you up for the day ahead, giving you a steady

stream of energy, rather than the short bursts common from high energy foods.

3. Try Herbalife's calorie-controlled breakfast with a good balance of protein, carbohydrates and

other important nutrients.

4. It's quick and easy to make and at less than 220 kcal, it's a healthier alternative to grabbing a

croissant in the morning when time is tight.

5. Balanced nutrition: Provides important vitamins and minerals to help you achieve your

Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA).

6. Weight control: Science-based meal replacements like F1 shake, have been shown to be an

effective way to help you control your weight, as part of a healthy active lifestyle.

7. Protein: Rich in soy protein, F1 shakes help you build lean muscle mass, along with exercise.

8. By increasing your percentage of lean muscle mass your metabolism is also increased meaning

you'll burn more calories - even while you are sleeping!
