To remove unwanted background and make it completely white, I have used the quick selection tool to select around the subjects body and guitar. I then use the ‘Inverse’ option which selects the outer side of where I have selected with the quick selection tool, where I can then use the eraser to remove unwanted background without erasing the subject. This helps to create a white look so that the viewers eyes will focus on the subject and I can also add coverlines and my masthead without having it contrast with the backgrounds.

I adjusted the subject in my image so that it was more of a mid shot rather than long shot. This helps to fit in my magazine genre as now the reader will notice the direct eye contact, which is a common convention to magazines, especially of the indie/rock genre. The reader will also be able to see the clothing, hairstyle and prop more clearly as it is taking up the whole front cover of the magazine, helping to represent the indie/rock genre and removing any negative space.

I wanted to make the subject’s skin look more clear and not too over exposed, however I didn’t want to over edit the image to make unrealistic changes, and I also wanted to maintain the messy masculine look to denote the indie/rock genre of my magazine more. To do this I have used tools such as ‘Brightness/Contrast’ and the ‘Clone tool’ to make the skin more clear and remove blemishes.
