A movement towards open agricultural knowledge
By aligning the efforts of various national, regional & international institutions
Better connections would lead to better resource sharing
CIARD movement was initiated in 2008 to …
Promote open access to agricultural knowledge Establish international standards for data interoperability Devise tools for better resource sharing and collaboration

Pathways
The CIARD Pathways provide an introduction to the ways in which research outputs can be made more
available,
accessible and
applicable (the 3As) for the stakeholders
3 Groups of PathwaysGroup 1: Enabling the institutional environment for openness and sharing of research information and knowledge
Introducing the ways in which institutional culture and capacity can be developed in order to achieve the 3As.
Group 2: Making research information and data more available and accessible
Covering Open Access, institutional repositories, and the growing importance of ‘linked data’
Group 3: Fostering knowledge exchange amongst different stakeholders
Sharing information and knowledge with peers and other stakeholder groups, and using different media to stimulate innovation
Types of Data Shared

Standards, protocols, tools, datasets, events(CIARD Ring, AgriFeeds)
Plant genetic resources(SINGER,GENESYS)
Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators(ASTI)
Agricultural factsheets and e-books(CABI)

RINGRoutemap to Information Nodes and Gateways
Principal tool created through the CIARD movement to allow information providers to register their services in various categories and so facilitate the discovery of sources of agriculture-related information across the world.
CIARD RING
Functions of the RING
to provide a map of accessible information sources with instructions on how they can be searched effectively;
to provide a dataset sharing platform for agriculture;
to provide examples of services that show good practices on implementing “interoperability”;
to clarify the level and mode of interoperability of information services;
to provide instructions for building enhanced integrated services that repackage information in different ways (refer to the CIARD Pathways of the 2nd and 3rd group)
Users of RING
agricultural information professionals and website developers
consumers of agricultural information
AIMSAgricultural Information Management Standards
Working to enhance coherence in information management standards, tools and methodologies, and assure interoperability of data and information systems worldwide.
Functions of AIMS
To disseminate good practices on how to best manage, disseminate, share and exchange information;
To foster a community of practice centered on interoperability and reusability of information and cooperation between information specialists; and
To support the implementation of structured and linked information to enable institutions and individuals to build open and interoperable information systems.
AIMS
Users of AIMS
AIMS is primarily intended for information professionals from different technical backgrounds — librarians, information managers, software developers — but is also of interest to those who are simply passionate about knowledge and information sharing.
Benefits of using AIMS
facilitates discovery of good practices designed to be widely applicable and easy to implement;
provides a space to access and discuss agricultural information management standards, tools and methodologies;
allows agricultural information workers worldwide to connect and share by registering in AIMS.
GODANGlobal Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition
GODAN Initiative, launched in October 2013
efforts to make agricultural and nutritionally relevant data available, accessible, and usable for unrestricted use of open data.
GODAN seeks to
reach out to the private sector and to innovation start-ups.
identify policy constraints affecting the full gamut of open data stakeholders, from technical providers to users
foster collaboration amongst its varied partners on projects related to the opening of
GODAN:ObjectivesAdvocate for new and existing open data initiatives
focussing on agriculture and nutrition data
Encourage the agreement on and release of a common set of agricultural and nutrition data
Enhance awareness of related ongoing activities, innovations, and good practices
Advocate for collaborative efforts on future agriculture and nutrition open data endeavours
Advocate programs, good practices and lessons learned that enable the use of open data particularly by and for the rural and urban poor.
AgriFeeds
http://www.agrifeeds.org
a service that allows users to search and filter
news and events from several agricultural
information sources
