INTRODUCTION In his free time Maurice Prout, a professor at Widener University, likes

to further his culinary knowledge by taking classes at a local cooking school in Pennsylvania. While many home chefs rely on cookbooks and online videos to help them enhance their craft, cooking classes are a fun, engaging way to discover new recipes and techniques. Some classes, like the ones in which Maurice Prout participates, even teach the science of cooking in addition to the art of good preparation. Here are three reasons to seek out a cooking class nearby.

1. It can lead to a healthier lifestyle. Often, in the midst of a hectic schedule, people pick up fast-food in a pinch, or throw together a cheap, boxed dinner at home, instead of looking for health conscious recipes. Instead of those poor choices, a cooking class can grant the skills and confidence needed to quickly cook something delicious and healthy.

COOKING CLASSES 2. A cooking class can relieve stress, and bring people

together. While some view cooking as a chore, taking a class with a spouse, a best friend, or a family member can be exciting and fun. It’s a great way to meet new people, to learn something new, and expand one’s social horizons.

3. The class will teach more than just HOW to cook. When enrolling in a cooking class, be mindful when choosing the type of cuisine, and find a class that will offer the chance to sample new flavors as well as untried foods. Try new things, taste new spices, and become a more worldly cook.

Cooking classes are diverse, and are a fantastic way to become a more accomplished home chef.
