Vietnam Rainforest & Land:

• About 19 million ha of rainforest/about 31 million ha of total natural territory

• About 92 million population, of which 16 million IEM people living in the forest;

• There are 250 State Forest Enterprises/9 million ha of the forest;

• 30 National Parks of 1, 350.000 ha;

• 126 Conservation areas of 2,5 triệu hecta;

• Not included Mining + Hydropower + Plantation area?!

• 16 million IEM people/1million ha forest land

Policy based forest grabbing line

• Open up land for welcoming foreigner investment: Mining (Chalo China), Hydropower; Industrial Plantation where IEM ancestral territory over hundred years of living. (Alcoha- America and BHP- Australia Bilton - UK kicked out in 2008);

• Industrialized traditional forest and agricultural land for cash crops in order to increase GDP;

• Encroaching countryside land for urbanization;• Promoting 37-50% of agricultural land for planting GM Corn (over 21

provinces/61 in all over Vietnam);• Financializing natural forest to hand over to both internal and external

company, then transforming into industrial economic zones (investment, employment, improvement for ‘national development’)

• 16 million IEM/1 million ha of land for daily livelihood V.S 800.000 Staffs of SFEs/12,850.000 ha (SFE + NP + CONSERVATIONs)

Solutions over the last 21 years• Key Farmer Networking and Empowering Local Young Activists• Building trust and connecting farmer to farmers;• Proving basic opportunity and conditions for key farmer to initiate their own Organizational &

Institutional Development;• Promoting Young Indi - Ethnic Leadership in Agro-Ecological Enterprising via YIELDS-AGREE

(2015-2025)• Involving local media and qualified action researchers;• Documenting local stories and People Video;• Total of 67 communities handled Community Spirit Forest Titles of 17,054,54 ha;• Total 10. 098 households handled of 44,081.53 ha in Vietnam• Total 11.000 ha of Community Forestry for Long lan village of 68 households to be handled both

Community Forestry Title and Household Title in Luang Prabang District, LPB province, Lao PDR• Coming 90 community spirit forest plots of about 10.000 ha of sacred forest and land will be

handled to 7 villages in Kuang Xy Waterfall (LPB, LAO) by the end of 2018;• There are over 100 ha forest land being used by 65 young IEM farmers who applied traditional

knowledge and technology in eco-farming in Vietnam and Luang Prabang;
