MAJOR KINDS OF POLLUTION……1. Air Pollution 2. Water Pollution3. Soil Pollution4. Noise Pollution

AIR POLLUTION…….

CausesBurning Of

Fuels Exhaust Gases Others

Sulphur Dioxide

Carbon Monoxide

HydrocarbonsOxides Of Nitrogen Carbon Dioxide

Lead Used In Gasoline

Page 6: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

HARMFUL EFFECTS……1. Air Pollution Is Responsible For Thousands Of Death

Every Year.2. Old People Are Highly Vulnerable.3. Older People With Heart Or Lung Disorders Are

Under Additional Risk.4. Children And Infants Are Also At Risk.

Page 7: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

HOW…..1. Carbon Dioxide Reduces Amount Of Oxygen In Body Which

Causes Headache.2. Nitrogen Oxides Causes Acid Rain, Damages Plants And

Irritates Nose-eye.3. Carbon Monoxide Is A Poisonous Gas Which Causes

Irritation, Blackout Or Death4. Hydrocarbons May Cause Cancer5. Nitrogen Oxide Combines With Hydrocarbons Which Forms

Peroxyacetyl Nitrate Which Irritates Eye And Lungs.

PREVENTION…….1. Factories And Industries Should Be Away From The Cities.2. Tall Chimneys Should Be Made3. Tetraethyl Should Be Added To Petrol Or Unleaded Petrol

Should Be Used.4. More Growth Of Trees5. Non Conventional Sources Of Energy Should Be Used6. Use Of Solar Heaters, Cookers, Biogas, And Smokeless

Stoves Should Be Encouraged7. Use Of Public Transport.

CAUSES1. Atmospheric Pollution Each Time Oxides Of Nitrogen And Sulphur Are

Released Into The Air, They Form Acid Rain. This Acid Rain Falls Into Water Bodies And

Contaminates The Water With Sulphuric Acid And Nitric Acid.

CONTD…….2. Ocean And Marine Dumping It Is Said That Paper Takes 6 Weeks To Decompose

And Aluminium Takes 200 Years. When This All Ends Up In The Sea, It Is Very Harmful

For All Living Organisms.

CONTD…..

3. Industrial WasteRelease Of Chemicals From The Industries Cause Huge Water Pollution With Their Activities.

Page 17: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

HARMFUL EFFECTS1. Reduces Amount Of Oxygen In Water.2. Results In Water–Borne Diseases. Eg: Jaundice3. Acid Rain4. Deals Great Damage To Aquatic Life.5. Disruptions In Food chains6. Damages Ecosystem

Page 19: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

PREVENTION1. Chemical Waste Should Not Be Dumped Into Water.2. No Establishment Of Industries On Water Bank.3. Contaminated Water Should Be Purified Before Releasing It

Into Water.4. No Dumping Of Oil In Seas By Ships Or Tankers.5. No Releasation Of Organic Waste Into Water Bodies.6. Establishment Of Solar Power Stations To Decrease Thermal

Power Pollution.7. Dams And Reservoirs Should Be Built For Controlling Flood8. Minimum Use Of Fertilizers And Pesticides.

SOIL POLLUTION Soil Depletion The

elimination of minerals and nutrients from soil is called soil depletion.

Soil Erosion A process in

which the top soil is eroded and taken away with either water or wind, taking away minerals is called erosion.

Page 21: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

CAUSES……1. Domestic Waste2. Littering Of Plastic, Glass, Other Non-biodegradable

Things3. Throwing Of Things Made Of Heavy Metal, Etc

Page 22: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

FACTThe

average time of using a plastic bag is just 12 seconds. So many plastic bags!!!!!!!!!!!

Page 23: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION
Page 24: POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION

PREVENTION……1. Less Cutting Of Trees2. More Planting Of Saplings3. Plants Like Bamboo And Eucalyptus Keep The Soil Firm,

Thus They Should Be Planted To Minimize Soil Erosion.4. Plants, If Planted In A Row, Break The Force Of Wind, Thus ,

There Is No Loss Of Topsoil.5. Terrace Farming Should Be Practiced6. Crop Rotation Should Be Followed7. Agricultural Land Should Be Utilised At Maximum.

THE CHIPKO ANDOLAN In the 1970s, an organized resistance to the destruction of forests spread throughout India and came to be known as the Chipko movement.

The name of the movement comes from the word 'embrace', as the villagers hugged the trees, and prevented the contractors' from cutting them.
