The need for Solar Rooftops
Rooftop potential for power generation is mind-boggling Patna has a potential of 750MW on rooftops* India has a potential of 150GW+ on rooftops. Our total power generation capacity is
288GW.
Why transmit when you can use at point of consumption? India loses an estimated 40% of its energy produced in T&D. 30% of our population lives in darkness.
It is tough to find coal easily. Everything needs energy.
7gms of carbon emitted per Google search.
Power tariffs will keep increasing. Power tariffs are not less than Rs. 7.5/kWh anywhere. MH is at Rs. 11/kWh.
The climate has changed drastically. 5 degrees not 2 degrees.
A combination of Solar PV and Wind can run the entire country on clean energy. 100%.

The need to abolish coal
Destroy forests to mine coal. Transport this coal overseas by sea. Take the coal from port to power plant. Burn the coal to move a turbine and produce power. Release massive CO2 and polluted water while you burn it.
The water released from power plants is polluted in most parts of the world and causes mass destruction of aqua ecosystems.
Transmit power over long distances to points of consumption. The carbon released into the atmosphere, does’nt let the heat out of the planet.
The heating causes a ripple effect of climatic changes right up to both Poles. Permafrost melts which releases methane which is 25x more carbon intensive than carbon dioxide.
When the carbon in the atmosphere is brought down to earth, it causes acidification in oceans, hence bleaching reefs and suffocating ecosystems.
Massive extinction is under way. Migration patterns are changing due to confusion amongst species.
Aqua ecosystems are inter-connected to rivers, aquifers, lakes and water bodies. We pump our daily water from aquifers. India is the largest ground water user in the world. The world was connected before the internet. And hence, a consumer in Ahmedabad can influence
the entire globe.

Grid-connected Solar Rooftops for Urban India
Solar PV Rooftops are possible on all kinds of roofs. Ideal for placement on residential, commercial or industrial. Dead load in range of 16-25 khgs/Sq. Mtr.
Life of 25 years.
Low-maintenance with cleaning of panels required.
No batteries but dependent on grid stability.
Lifecycle Cost of Solar PV
IRR is 15% for a Solar PV System, but there is something more interesting.
Particulars in Rs. Capex 2800000Interest on Term Loan of 7 years 1646400O&M for 15 years 750000Total Expenses 5196400
Annual Units Generated 1057500
15-year Lifecycle Cost of Solar Power 4.91385
Lifecycle Costs for Solar PV over 15 year Life for a 50kW
Differentiating X from Y
What should be considered
Components are key. No two solar vendors are the same. There is more to the system than solar modules and inverters.
Placing emphasis only on price is not correct. We are one of the cheapest markets for Solar PV in the world. Few plants have seen more than 4 years. Solar PV is about engineering a good plant which will last for 25years.
We have failed many times with different components or technical principles. #shashwatcleantechfails

Why do people make the wrong decision
Asking the right questions related to the system and not only one component. China has something for everybody. Believe in hearsay. If its too good to be true, it probably is.

Scaling up, Moving quick
Help common man by making processes easy. Use technology to make documentation easier.
Emphasis on long-term and not short-term in investor mindset.
Remove subsidies, allow market modes to flourish. Adopt Interest Subvention or T&D Bonds for raising money.
Conduct an in-depth study of Lifecycle Costs of Coal, Diesel and Solar PV. Include all environmental, health and economic costs.
Create a Carbon Replacement Fund. Incentivise ‘carbon reduction’. Financiers should look at applications like rooftops as they see tractors. BOOT is already a
reality.
