to meet a broad spectrum of your customers’ needs. Solar power is a growing trend that shows no

sign of slowing down: In the first quarter of 2013 residential installations grew 53%, with every

indication that the trend will only get stronger*. Almost a third of Americans say they’re likely

to add solar to their homes, and 60% say they’re likely to install solar given a lease or financing

With Viridian and SolarCity, your customers pay for power, not panels. So they reap substantial sav-

ings, with a host of other benefits. Here’s some language you can use to share key points with them:

Therearenoinstallationcosts—really! SolarCity will install a system on your home for free. You

don’t buy or own the solar panels, you simply pay for your solar power monthly. It’s just like paying

your monthly utility bill…except since you’ll be generating much of your own power, you’ll likely be

paying less.

Yougetthesecurityandsavingsoflocked-inlowrates. Utility rates have increased over time,

sometimes without warning. But with a SolarCity Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or lease option,

you can have certainty in your electricity rate for 20 years. Imagine what a difference that can make

a decade or two from now!

Thereareflexiblepaymentoptions. Everyone has different financial needs and goals. You may

choose to go solar for as little as $0 down, or you can prepay some of your electricity in advance

to lower your monthly payments. You can even prepay the entire system and not have any ongoing

solar electricity bills. Your advisor will be happy to explain all of your options in depth.

Are your customers good candidates?

Ready to get started referring customers? Most homes in our active markets will be eligible for solar,

but to make sure you have the most qualified leads, ask your customer these simple questions first:

Do you own your home in one of our solar markets?

Do you have roof space with little or no shading?*

Do you pay $40 or more a month for electricity?

Although�the�questions�listed�above�will�likely�be�enough�to�qualify�most�customers,�there�are�additional�factors�that�could�cause�solar�to�

not�be�the�best�option�for�a�customer.�The�internal�Viridian�solar�team�will�check�for�things�like�home�shading�and�credit-worthiness�at�the�

time�of�your�customer’s�risk-free�initial�consultation.

Submiting a referralSubmitting a solar customer referral is simple. At the same time your customer is enrolling for

electricity or natural gas, he or she can just check the box on the enrollment form indicating

an interest in learning more about our solar program. After the referral is submitted, a Viridian

Solar Advisor will contact your customer and make an appointment for a risk-free custom solar

proposal. You will be able to track your customer’s status in your Back Office.

To ensure you recieve credit for your customer referral, make sure your customers use your PWS

or your ID on an enrollment form.

Risk-free consultationOnce your customer submits a lead request, he or she will be assigned to a personal Viridian

Solar Advisor for a risk-free consultation and custom solar proposal.

The Viridian Solar Advisors will contact your customer to ask a few more qualifying questions,

make sure that we have all the information we need, and work through the steps to getting your

customer a customized proposal.

The proposal will show your customer how generating his or her own solar power can lower

home energy costs.

SolarCity guides your customers through the processEvery home is unique, so SolarCity will custom-design a home solar energy system that meets

your customers’ energy needs based on the architecture of their home and their savings goals.

Leave the paperwork to SolarCity: They take care of all permitting and inspections, and will keep

you and your customers informed and up-to-date at each step. Installation typically takes 1 day,

customer’s Internet connection to track your customer’s home solar system and makes sure it’s

running. SolarCity will maintain, repair or replace any equipment at no cost during the life of

your customer’s contract. And because everyone wants to brag about how much energy they’re

generating, your customers can check their solar energy production at any time and even share

it with friends and family online through their personalized web page on mysolarcity.com.

pre-qualification questions for your own home with a “yes”,

Compensation PlanAdding solar energy to our product mix fits well into the

existing structure of our Compensation Plan. There’s only

one major difference, and it’s one we’re sure you’ll

appreciate: Completing a solar sale gives you a 20-year

residual plus a $100 Customer Acquisition Bonus (CAB).

Here are some additional details for how solar energy

customer growth will relate to the “9 Ways to Get Paid”:

1.SolarCustomerCredit

Every solar customer you refer is worth one Personal Customer Credit (PCC) (and, of course,

one Organizational Customer Credit for your upteam) once the customer signs a contract

with SolarCity. These credits do not count toward electric or natural gas Fast Start or Mentor

Bonus requirements but do count toward your rank requirements. This means that one

customer can be worth up to three customer credits for you or your upteam.

(NOTE:�If�for�any�reason�your�customer�cancels�his�or�her�contract�before�installation,�your�PCC�will�go�to�a�cancelled�status.�

However,�the�$100�CAB�you�received�is�yours�to�keep.)��

2.$100CustomerAcquisitionBonus

You’ll receive a $100 customer acquisition bonus when your customer signs his/her

solar contract. Since the solar sales process is more of a lengthy sale than our electric

and natural gas sales, fast start and mentor bonuses do not apply.

3.20yearsofresidualincome

Every solar contract signed offers a 20-year residual payment for you! Here’s how it works: Your

customer’s estimated production value will be defined in the customer’s solar contract. This will

define your solar CV (Commissionable Volume) for that customer. The current solar CVR (Com-

missionable Volume Rate) will be published monthly on the rate sheets, along with electric and

natural gas CVRs. Your residual will be based on the account’s CV multiplied by the applicable

solar CVR for your customer, which is then multiplied by your earned percentage based on your

rank and eligibility.

In short, this means you have the potential to earn more from your solar customers than from any other customers in your

organization.

Volume-BasedPayandGroupPay:

Your residual payment will be based on the customer’s system size and estimated production value, which are both defined

in the customer’s solar contract. Your residual payment is also further defined by Viridian’s current applicable solar CVR.

Promotions

From time to time we will be able to offer our Associates some exciting

promotions to drive solar sales. This includes our exciting launch promotion,

exclusive to Associates, mentioned earlier on Page 14.

Tracking your customers’ solar statusWe know you’ll want to stay on top of your solar customers’ progress towards installation, as well as when you are going to be

compensated for your successful referrals. So we’ve made it possible for you to track your customers’ status through your Back Office.

sunlight your home gets throughout the day and the amount of open roof space you have.

Our Viridian Solar Advisors can give you a quick assessment by looking at satellite photos of the

property. If the roof looks good, we will schedule a follow-up risk-free solar consultation. At that

time, our experts will take a look at your home’s architecture, evaluate your energy needs, and work

with you to decide if a solar system fits with your house and lifestyle. They will provide a detailed

proposal including recommended system location, size, pricing and financial analysis.

Howreliableissolarpower?Solar systems built today are very reliable. They have proven to be

dependable sources of energy for large office buildings, mass retailers and governmental agencies,

supplying many megawatts of energy. Some of the largest organizations in the world have buildings

powered by solar energy through SolarCity, including eBay, Wal-Mart, and the U.S. Air Force. SolarCity

has extremely high quality standards and only uses the best in class equipment. In other words, they

create systems built to last.

Howlongwillasolarsystemlast?Most of the parts on a solar system, such as solar panels, carry

manufacturer’s warranties of 25 years; other parts, such as inverters, carry 10-year warranties. Solar

money on electricity bills—from the very first month throughout the lifetime of your contract.

savings of going solar far outweigh that eventuality. Think about it: Utility prices have been con-

stantly increasing, but solar lets you lock in low rates for a full 20 years. And don’t forget that fund-

ing for most government solar rebates is not guaranteed to last.

WillIhavetroublesellingmyhomeifIgosolar? SolarCity deals with customers that move all the

time. Your contract is easy to transfer. Chances are, going solar may even help you sell your home, as

solar power can lower your home’s operating costs—a feature which may be attractive to potential

buyers.

WillIstillneedmyutilityonceIgosolar? You will. Solar panels are not able to power your house at

night! But while you will still need your utility, you will be paying them for a lot less usage. Plus, when

you use one of Viridian’s affordable green energy plans for the remainder of your electricity supply, you

can rest assured that you are still minimizing your environmental impact by consuming energy from

renewable resources by day and by night.

Issolartechnologyreliable? Very. Solar panels are made from extremely durable materials, rated

to survive every kind of bad weather. Your solar system will be warrantied and insured for the entire

length of your contract at no additional cost to you. SolarCity even guarantees the amount of power

your solar system will produce, and will pay you the difference if it falls short.

HowdoesmysolarsystemworkwithmyViridianEnergyelectricaccount? Solar will provide

your energy when your solar panels are generating energy from the sun, and your home use requires

the energy (denoted by area “A” in the below graph). For solar that is produced during times when your

home does not require the total amount of energy produced by the sun (denoted by area “B” in the

below graph), the energy will travel through the grid to neighboring homes that need it. You will receive

energy supplied by Viridian during the times when you need energy, but your solar panels are not

producing it (most often during early morning or after sunset, denoted by C in the below graph). This

energy will be delivered by the local utility and supplied from clean sources through Viridian.

On average, the Northeast gets approximately 4.5 hours of direct sunlight a day. And because power

prices are typically higher in the Northeast than in other parts of the country, going solar makes
