Enabling knowledge transfer for disaster risk reducNon in integraNon to climate change Project N°603807
The working context The Living Lab study in Vietnam builds on DWF experience in Vietnam since 1989. DWF promotes the pracNce of prevenNve strengthening of houses of the poor to resist typhoons and floods. It encourages naNonal and local authoriNes, local builders and families to integrate the key principles of safer construcNon in new and exisNng buildings, especially those of the poor and very poor.

The “Laboratory” in four stages • The benchmark case study -‐ the situa3on before, during and a8er 3
typhoons: Chanchu & Xangsane 2006; Ketsana 2009.
• 2013: Recent experience: Post typhoons Wu3p & Nari (2013) surveys in Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue provinces – a contemporary view of informa3on flow and knowledge development
• 2014: More detailed surveys with Loc Tri commune inhabitants & builders
• 2014 Hue Workshop: Vietnamese experience of “Enabling knowledge for disaster risk reduc3on and its integra3on into climate change adapta3on”

“Knowing beher and losing even more”
“Knowledge” Inadequate despite the research effort ? Not applied, not used ? Not communicated adequately ?
