labelslabels Blue Note Records is an American jazz record label, established in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis. Francis

Wolff became involved shortly afterwards. It derives its name from the characteristic "blue notes" of jazz and the blues.

Originally dedicated to recording traditional jazz and small group swing, from 1947 the label began to switch its attention to modern jazz.

Historically, Blue Note has principally been associated with the "hard bop" style of jazz (mixing bebop with other forms of music including soul, blues, rhythm and blues and gospel). Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson, Donald Byrd, Grant Green, Hank Mobley and Freddie Redd were among the label's leading artists.

The label is currently owned by the Universal Music Group and in 2006 was expanded to fill the role of an umbrella label group bringing together a wide variety of then EMI-owned labels and imprints specializing in the growing market segment of music for adults.

With the Blue Note 7 their primary audience would be mostly middle ages adults aged 30-50. This is because all of the people in the group are middle aged.

With The Bird And The Bee their primary audience would be both men and women aged 20-25 as they both look very young.

This record labels target audience would probably be both men and women from about their mid teens to late twenties (15-early 20’s) the reason for this would probably be because most of the artist look quite young and their music would be suitable for many ages. With Maroon 5 their primary audience would be mostly girls, as they are all male. With We Are Twin, their primary audience would appeal to both boys and girls as the group consists of a girl and a by. This subsidiary record label along with its artist would mainly aim themselves in America and possibly the UK.

With Republic Records, I think that their target audience would be both boys and girls of ages between 15- early 20’s. The reason for this is because they have artist like Nicki Minaj, Lorde and their music genres and how they present themselves would be about this age range.

This subsidiary record label would mostly appeal to boys and girls/men and women aged 13-md 30’s. They would also be aimed at both the US and the UK. The reasons for this is that they have artist that are both from the UK and US, for example Emeli Sande and Jennifer Lopez. With Emili Sande her primary audience would be teenage girls aged 13-25 and would be targeted within the UK. With the Beatles their primary audience would be mostly women aged 25-30, the reason for this would be because they are an all boy band.

Conclusion and Conclusion and FindingsFindings

The dominant institutions (The Big Three) in the music industry are as follows…..

Universal Music

Sony

Warner Brothers

These “Big Three” use subsidiary music labels in a very smart way. They have certain artists who use certain genres within their music and set them up in a certain subsidiary music label that suits there genre of music. The reason for this is that if they had all of their artist in one music label there would be too much genres and artist to keep on track of.
