I have decided to call my music magazine “Turntablez” because that is the piece of equipment they use to make Dubstep music. It links well with the genre too. My magazine will be about new artists that are coming this year, that would be my main article for my double page spread. I want my magazine to be about teenagers today and their music. My main article is about up and coming artists that will be on the scene in 2012.

I used graffiti writing for the Masthead, and the Coverlines on both the front magazine and contents page. I used red and green to outline the words and had them filled black. This gave the words an illuminative glow which would make it standout to other magazines and grab my target audience. The reason for choosing this font and the colour is because it is what I have learnt from my research, like the images shown below.

The slide below shows my mock plan of where I lay put my coverlines, masthead, selling line, image, etc. I used all the conventions of a magazine and decided not to challenge them, only the masthead which is diagonal, however that is used on some magazines which I have found from my research. On my front cover, I have 2 columns with two coverlines on each side. This will make it easier for the reader to navigate around the magazine and so wouldn’t confuse them. I downloaded a font off of dafonts.com so I chose a font that will go with the genre I am doing and most in of their work, they use graffiti.

Questions of intent on the Front Cover

What I am hoping for is that as soon as they pick up the magazine they should have an idea of what the content of the magazine should be about. So, like all magazines they should expect that maybe there should be some talk about music (obviously) and that maybe, like all magazines, that there is a possibility of an interview in the magazine, maybe with an artist or a music producer in that field of genre that you are doing. From my image that will be on the front cover, as I will have someone in front of a piece of equipment, maybe it could show one of the above ideas.

I think that my target audience would find my front image appealing as it will instantly show you what genre my music is. I hope that my image will be appealing to my target audience because it easy to relate to, however some of my target may not enjoy it because they may not like the type of genre that my music magazine is.

Well from my front cover, the major coverline “Up ‘n’ coming artists” will be the for my double page spread. I think that this article relates to my magazine as it tells the reader artists that are coming into the music industry and who they should look out for. I may also include an interview with an a new artist too.

Well, hopefully I would like to use an image of two people behind the decks, as if using them. Again it links to the genre as that is used for making Dubstep music. Maybe I will put up little pictures around the dominant image, but that decision hasn’t been finalised yet. I think that this will be a good image to use at I will have two people, around the age of 16-18. This will relate to my target audience, which will be shown on the front cover so that the reader automatically knows who the target audience should be.

The type of representation I used for my magazine are youths. I think that it is a good representation as it will give out the right message. Using this representation would make it easier for my audience to understand, and possibly relate to this image so that they immediately know who it is for and what it is about.
