On Michael’s fourteenth birthday, he wanders into Washington’s Olympic National Forest to look for his

father who had been missing – exactly one year to the day.

It is present day.

The forest is dark from the densely wooded evergreens. He barely makes out a

swirling mist in front of

him – a shimmering

veil.

As he steps through, he

is transported.
