DIY Night

• A 4-5 station style program (my favorite)• DIY Night included:– Button making– Duck tape wallets– Bottle cap magnets– Skill toys

• Kick-off to Summer 2011

DIY Night

• Requires some supplies and supply money• Preparation:– Gathering supplies– Making samples– Understanding the directions– Making clear signage

• They always need more help than you think

• Day of:– Set up tables– Sort supplies by project– Pull out related books from YA Non-Fiction– Review samples– Misc. and house keeping items

Community Sized Library Program

• Simple and easy• Can add on to make it a bigger event• Opportunity to involve many library staff AS

and YS• Opportunity to involve surrounding

Iron Chef Mania

• Come up with a “secret ingredient”• Teens bring in a completed dish for judging. • Dish must include the “secret ingredient”• Summer Reading Tie in:– Express Yourself (2009) – Chocolate– Make Waves (2010) – Pineapple– You Are Here (2011) – Food from around the

world

Iron Chef Mania• Became an annual event• No fuss summer finale• Can tie into almost any theme• Preparation:– Decide “secret ingredient”– Line up volunteer judges– Create certificates– Gather paper products and utensils– Create PowerPoint trivia
