• “Rule” and the other column “Why?”

What if?

• “What happens if you do not follow a rule?”

• There are consequences for not following rules, such as having quiet time in the corner, losing privileges, or being sent to the principal’s office.

Other Rules

• Think about other places where there are rules that help us feel safe.

• How about rules for riding the school bus? Does the bus driver have to follow rules, too?

• The bus driver has to follow the rules of the road, and students who ride the bus have to follow safety rules as well.

• What are some of the rules that the bus driver has to follow?

• What about stop signs, crosswalk signs, etc?

• Name some of the rules that people who ride on the bus have to follow.

Examples:• Arrive at the bus stop early

• Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before crossing the street to get on

• Enter in a single-file line

• Stay seated at all times

• Keep all parts of the body inside the bus

• Keep aisles clear

• Do not eat

Expressive Arts Extension• After discussing rules of a classroom, create

your own sign for the school with a rule on it.

• Think about what types of rules you would want in your school.

• The rules will be posted in the hallway, at water fountains, in the library, cafeteria, bus lines, or any other place where you feel you need to be reminded of the rules.
