Question 2 – How effective is the combination of you main product and

ancillary texts?

GenreThe genre of my ancillary texts is indie/pop as usually indie bands end up in the pop genre of music due to the amount of fans and the change in music. As my video is pop genre both the video and my ancillary work together. As we made questionnaires we came to find the two popular genres were indie and pop so this is why we chose to focus on these two genres. The camera shot on my ancillary texts i.e. the front cover of my cd cover is a high angle shot. And in the video we produced there are many high angle shots of the singer. As you can see I have tried to combine

StyleThere is a consistent house style in my ancillary product as I used the same font and images on the covers and cd cover and size and style. Also the same images are used in the video as on my front cover of the album due to screen shots and the model wearing the same dress. On my ancillary I used darker colours associated to indie music greys and blacks. Also this associates with the video as it was a dark day and the video is about being heartbroken.

Finished ProductsOur finished product compares to a real media text as it is a music video. We have edited the video to make it look like a real music video. With the model mimicking the words at the same time as he music is being played and many different type of shots of the model. It also compares to a real media product to the editing techniques used and the link of the ancillary images relating to our video images due to the model wearing the same dress in both my ancillary product and music video. Also the same setting where the video was shot the main photographs were taken used on our ancillary products.

EditingWe edited the video on Adobe Premiere. The editing technique we used the most when making our video was cross dissolve as we found that trying to get the video to go from shot to shot smoothly was hard as the shots were taken at different angles.

DifficultiesThe difficulties I experienced when gaining synergy between the two products was as we didn’t know what the video would turn out like so we have to re edit all of our ancillary products to make them link together. Also we created our ancillary tasks before we shot our video so we had to base the video around the type of house style we created on our ancillary product and as we all chose different colour schemes and house styles it was hard trying to find music that related to all our house styles and the colour schemes we all used.
