Primary and Secondary Research

• Primary research is a form of original research that is undertaken to be able to have the knowledge of certain information through using techniques such as interviews, questionnaires and focus groups.

• Secondary research is a form of research that is undertaken using existing sources that other people have gathered.

The type of research that I shall be undertaking shall consist of the following;

Online ExampleI carried out my online research by emailing family and friends as that would give be a variety of answers from different ages and genders.

Paper based exampleI carried out paper based research by printing off my questionnaire and handing it out to others. I gave my questionnaire to both sexes so I would get a variety of results.

Online feedbackThis example is of someone from the age range of 10-20, therefore, differentiating to the results that Igained from the example of the paper based questionnaire.

Paper based feedback

This example of my paper based feedback was gained from someone of the age range ‘older’, meaning that they where older then 50, which would immediately make me think that they knew what the term social realism meant, however, that was not the case.

How my research helps me answer questions...

• My research helps me to answer the two evaluation questions as it gives me a wider variety of feedback to provide me with the knowledge to help me have a better understanding of what my target demographic are most interested in.

• From my results I can see that the older generation have the tendency to have more knowledge on the subject of social realism, where as the younger generation do not.

• I can also see that I shall have to reconsider some possible ideas for my final piece to suitor my target demographic.
