Review.• The most frequent comments that occurred were the success of

the lip syncing and the choice of locations.

• If the lip syncing was not in time the video would be unsuccessful however these comments suggest that it was a success.

• The choice of location played a huge role in out music video, we wanted it to be day and night. This was because the story was over a long period of time and we wanted to portray this with summer sun and dark winter nights e.g bonfire night. I feel confident that the music video was successful as the target audience enjoyed the choice of location and understood the concept.

Review.

• I have learnt from this question that the shorter the clips and the faster the transition the more interesting it becomes as the same image is not being held on for to long.

• Because we had fast tempo song it allowed us to use quick transitions and shorter frames as it fit the music, this helped keep the viewer’s interested and excited.

On a scale of 1 to 5, (5 being the highest) how well do the choices of locations work?• Survey monkey works really well when using multiple choice as there is room to

put in any other comments which helps to collect more specific information.

Additional comments.

‘The use of the seaside was good. It would be 5, but the others made it confusing and distracting’. 5/1/2012 20:04

‘Really like the bit at the fun fair.’ 5/1/2012 18:15

‘ All the locations work well to compliment each other’. Classroom feedback

‘Variety of locations work well to keep the viewer intrigued’. Classroom feedback

As you can see there are mixed reviews about the choice of location. They are mainly positive comments and the majority opted for 5 out of 5 however the comment made about the images being confusing must be taken into consideration. Everyone was very positive about the seaside scenes, maybe we would have been more successful if we has stuck to just the one setting. .

In my opinion I believe the fairground gives excitement and shows the changes over time. Many people said about the lighting in the fairground and how exciting it made the video. I think we should have made a survey before we shot the scenes asking audiences if they prefer on setting or a variety, this way we would have received more positive feedback.

Did the genre of the song match the visuals? (why?)

‘Fast paced jump cuts.’

‘Fairground scene, unusual, common for indie bands’

‘Bright lights and quick changes in shots suited the indie style.’

‘ Clothing was typical of an indie band, boots, chino’s and skinny jeans.’

Review.

• I believe that we succeeded in creating a music video for an indie/alternative band as the audience identified features in our video that are used in other music video’s in this genre.

• On survey monkey people made reference to example who is an alternative artist and identified how we tried to mimic the foot tapping in his video.

• Although Pink is a pop artist people made links to her video which was also set in a fairground, by audiences seeing familiar scenes they can engage easier with ours as the feel comfortable with what they already know.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest) how successful was the music video?Survey monkey

Page 16: Music video feedback

Review.

• As the majority rated the video 9 out of 10 it is clear that the video was successful.

• In order to ensure our video was successful we took the comments from the first pitch we did and tried to include all of the comments where possible.

Continued.Once suggestion was that we though about the notion of looking. We took this onboard and created the telescope scene to pursue Goodwin's principle – the notion of looking.

Page 18: Music video feedback

Continued.Another issue raised was lighting. This was vital In the success of the video. This is why we opted to use the natural sunlight on the beach and a very lit up fairground area at night.

We wanted the visuals to look as natural as possible as it was portraying the journey of a couples relationship so using natural light and surroundings was the best option. There was one scene were the girl is holding a sparkler people commented on the lighting being dark however this was made to look like a home video and artificial lighting would have ruined the effect.

Summary.

• I have learnt the importance of audience feedback through this process as without it many elements of our video would not have matched the viewer’s needs.

• It has helped me hugely in every aspect of the video from lighthing to locations.
