Analyzing Three Magazine Covers

NMEThe masthead in the NME magazine is simple and small, unlike Kerrang it only takes up a portion of the left corner but always staying the same Black, Red and White colour. This cover of ‘Beth Ditto’ uses only four different colour’s for the font and background. Yellow, Red, Black and white which makes the cover very effective.

The pull line is also very effective on this cover as it is linked in with the picture of Beth Ditto known for her attitude to not care about her weight.

The coverlines are on the right of the magazine, they only mention artists instead of headlines of the other articles in the magazine.

NMEAgain like the other NME magazine I looked at the Masthead is in the same place with the same colour's. The font colour's again fit in with the Picture of ‘Pete Doherty’ making the colour themes Purple, Pink and White.

The coverlines are in different places on this issue. There are a list of Artists on the right lower corner but in the Right upper corner and Left lower corner there are other Coverlines with pictures of the Artists which feature in this issue.

There is also a shape on the magazine showing a competition within the magazine with VIP Tickets to a festivals, this could pull festival goers into buying the magazine for the chance to get tickets.

KERRANGThe masthead in the Kerrang magazine is an effective sans serif distorted font and it stand out on the white background from the main image of ’30 Second to Mars’.

The coverlines are on the Right hand side with their own division of colour. They show three images of artists which feature in the issue. The reader can also see the other artists under the pull line from the Main Image.

This cover sticks to 3 different colours on the font and background White, Black and Brown. This is effective as It make the image of ’30 Second to Mars’ stand out and the images on the coverlines.
